Top Movies for Adults Who Are Kids at Heart

7 June 2016 3:00 PM, PDT

Being an adult is hard: There are bills to pay, jobs to go to, and families to care for. Everyone has days when they wish they could go back to high school -- or elementary school -- and live in a world where the only responsibility is turning in homework on time. Most adults feel like overgrown teenagers at some point in their lives. If this sounds like you, these five movies should have a permanent spot in your DVD rotation.

'Big' (1988)

The seminal classic for any adult who feels like a kid, "Big" tells the story of Josh Baskin, a 13-year-old who makes a simple wish on a creepy machine at a carnival. He wants to be "big." The next morning, he wakes up in the body of Tom Hanks and has to learn to navigate the waters of being an adult until he can reverse his wish. Tom Hanks »

Lady Gaga's 'Ahs: Hotel' Character Was Inspired by Robert Durst

7 June 2016 2:25 PM, PDT

When it comes to music, Lady Gaga is a chameleonic persona, adopting flamboyant styles and mannerisms both on and off the stage. But for her first foray into television acting, with a lead role on "American Horror Story: Hotel," the songstress said she took inspiration from a famous -- and similarly murderous -- source.

In an interview with Jamie Lee Curtis for Variety's Actors on Actors series, Gaga admitted that she was as captivated by HBO's "The Jinx" as the rest of the country, and especially the inner workings of its main subject.

"Every day I would watch Robert Durst in 'The Jinx' and his wife Debrah Durst and I would sort of study the practical nature in which he was devious and evil," Gaga explained. "He just has this extremely practical way of explaining how he's going conceal the fact that he's dumped a body in a river and »

Jeff Goldblum Talks 'Hedonist' 'Thor: Ragnarok' Villain Grandmaster

7 June 2016 1:50 PM, PDT

We're still more than a year away from the release of "Thor: Ragnarok," the third outing in the God of Thunder's franchise, but new cast member Jeff Goldblum is excited for fans to see his take on the villainous Grandmaster, dishing about the part in a new interview.

Speaking with Empire, Goldblum explained the inner workings of his character, and discussed what it was like stepping into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, under the guidance of fellow franchise newcomer -- and "Ragnarok" director -- Taika Waititi.

"He's a hedonist, a pleasure-seeker, an enjoyer of life and tastes and smells," Goldblum told Empire of Grandmaster. "I thought, 'I can do that, I'll bet!' I'm working on my part every day. I'm a sponge, researching."

The actor added that Waititi "is encouraging me to improvise and make it my own," an exciting prospect for fans of Goldblum's past work.

Here's Your First Look at Melissa McCarthy Back as Sookie in 'Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life'

7 June 2016 1:00 PM, PDT

We were overjoyed when Melissa McCarthy finally confirmed that she would indeed return to Stars Hollow for the "Gilmore Girls" revival, titled "Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life." Now, we have our first look at the actress back in character as kooky chef Sookie St. James.

The image comes courtesy of "Gilmore" costumer Brenda Maben, who's been sharing a bunch of behind the scenes photos from the revival on her Instagram account. For her latest sneak peek, Maben took a selfie with Michel (a.k.a. actor Yanic Truesdale) and none other than Sookie herself.

Tom Hiddleston Probably Won't Be James Bond

7 June 2016 12:15 PM, PDT

There's been lots of press lately about potential replacements for Daniel Craig in the James Bond series, with Tom Hiddleston's name at the top of many lists of potential heirs to the 007 throne. But according to Hiddleston himself, the likelihood of him assuming the Bond mantle is apparently pretty low.

Hiddleston dropped the disappointing news during a panel discussion at Wizard World Philadelphia last weekend, where he appeared alongside Chris Hemsworth to discuss "Thor: Ragnarok." But when the moderator asked Hiddleston if he wanted to talk about anything else -- say, announce a certain casting in a certain spy franchise -- the actor had to admit that the possibility didn't look so certain after all.

"I'm sorry to disappoint you, everybody," Hiddleston told the excited crowd, whose passionate screams quickly devolved into cries of disbelief. "I don't think that announcement is coming. But I'm very gratified to hear the enthusiasm. »

Jamie Lee Curtis Won the 'Warcraft' Premiere With Epic Cosplay

7 June 2016 10:55 AM, PDT

While the reviews for the video game-inspired flick "Warcraft" have been mixed at best, there was one thing everyone could agree on at the film's Los Angeles premiere on Monday night: Jamie Lee Curtis won the red carpet.

Instead of donning the typical Hollywood attire for the event, the actress opted for something much more awesome: full cosplay. Curtis walked the red carpet decked out as an orc shaman, alongside her son, Tom Guest, who cosplayed as an orc warrior. The mother and son painted their skin green for extra effect, and sported incredibly detailed costumes, which also included intricate headpieces and accompanying weapons.

5 British TV Shows That Successfully Crossed the Pond

7 June 2016 9:00 AM, PDT

British shows have never been more popular in the U.S. than they are now. Thanks to the explosion of online streaming sites, Americans can get their fix of British TV in a way that would have been difficult even 10 years ago.

Here are a few British TV shows that really struck a chord with American audiences.

1. 'The Office (UK)' (2001 - 2003)

Before Michael Scott, there was David Brent. Hilarious, cringe-worthy, and frankly brilliant, "The Office" was just two seasons and a Christmas special of some of the best comedy ever made. You can't compare the original to the American remake, simply because both are hilarious -- yet very different -- shows. No one who ever saw Brent's insane Comic Relief day dance will ever forget it. The 2003 Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series -- Musical or Comedy was well-deserved, and Brent's portrayal kicked off a stellar career for Ricky Gervais. »

'Game of Thrones' Episode 8 Synopsis Teases Tyrion's Return

7 June 2016 8:45 AM, PDT

Tyrion has been missing in action in the last two episodes of "Game of Thrones," but the wily Lannister will be back in episode 8.

HBO released the official synopsis for "No One," and it's as cryptic as previous descriptions.

While Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) weighs his options, Cersei (Lena Headey) answers a request. Tyrion's (Peter Dinklage) plans bear fruit. Arya (Maisie Williams) faces a new test. Written by David Benioff & D. B. Weiss; directed by Mark Mylod.

(Interestingly, the network did not release the synopsis for the crucial episode 9, even though it's been doling out these summaries two at a time.)

Last we saw Tyrion, his bargain with the slave masters had created a tenuous peace in Meereen. He then forged an alliance with the Red Priestess Kinvara, who believed Daenerys was "the one who was promised."

So, it seems his "plans bear fruit." That could mean that Kinvara and her »

'Hamilton's' Lin-Manuel Miranda and Broadway Stars Belt to 'Carpool Karaoke'

7 June 2016 7:30 AM, PDT

Bright lights, "Carpool Karaoke"!

For the latest edition of James Corden's popular "Late Late Show" segment, "Hamilton" creator Lin-Manuel Miranda and Broadway stars Audra McDonald, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, and Jane Krakowski boarded the vehicle for a Tony Awards-themed songfest. Corden is hosting the ceremony this Sunday.

Miranda and Corden started the ride by rapping the opening number from the blockbuster show "Hamilton," which set records by earning 16 Tony nominations and is poised to win big on Sunday.

They were soon joined by six-time Tony winner McDonald, as well as "Modern Family's" Ferguson and "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt's" Krakowski, who are both veteran stage performers.

The group then belted out famous Broadway tunes like "Seasons of Love" from "Rent," "You're to Good to be True" from "Jersey Boys," and the epic "One More Day" from "Les Miserables."

The Tony Awards air Sunday at 8 p.m. on CBS.

Josh Brolin Was 'Blown Away' by 'Avengers: Infinity War' Story

7 June 2016 7:00 AM, PDT

No matter the era, Josh Brolin has a pretty firm handle on Hollywood.

If you missed brothers Joel and Ethan Coen's most recent movie, "Hail, Caesar!," you've got a new opportunity to check out the flip-side of "Barton Fink," their poison-pen take on the conflicts between Hollywood and creativity. The film, which features Brolin as a studio fixer -- the squasher of potential star scandals detrimental to box office business -- is, even with its somewhat cynical lens trained on spoiled celebrities with bad judgment, a loopy love letter of sorts to a bygone cinematic era where even the by-any-means-necessary fixer's just doing his best for the image of the system and its stars.

The second in a now-emerging Brolin Acting Dynasty -- his dad, James, paved the way; daughter Eden is following in his footsteps -- Brolin, who brings a distinctive heart and conscience to a role that »

Second Life: Old Kids' Shows That Are Making a Comeback

6 June 2016 6:00 PM, PDT

Love them or hate them, reboots are here to stay -- until they get remade once again. And while some franchises are better left alone (cough, cough, "Fuller House"), others are even stronger the second time around, especially when you're not old enough to remember the original. Here's a look at the best and worst kids' shows making comebacks faster than you can say "cannibalizing my childhood."

'The Powerpuff Girls' (1998 - 2005)

Way back in 1998, Cartoon Network did something amazing and produced a cartoon that was equal parts "Spider-Man," "My Little Pony," and Ms. Magazine: "The Powerpuff Girls." Audiences eager to see that girls could kick butt too responded strongly, keeping the show on the air for seven years. The carefully crafted blend of silliness, standard villain plots, and adorable sisters charmed kids all over the world, spawning merchandise, cosplay, and even a full-length feature film. So naturally, a reboot was inevitable, »

Top Movies That Totally Flopped at the Box Office

6 June 2016 3:00 PM, PDT

Ah, youth. The days when you reveled in your dorm room and feasted on delicacies like hair dryer-warmed pizza or ramen gently braised over a light bulb. Your bank account might've been empty, but you still managed to feed your soul with the deepest of lessons: Money isn't everything.

And you weren't alone when enlightenment struck. Since Hollywood's golden age, plenty of movies that had hard-knock openings later blossomed into beloved cinematic staples or legit cult classics. Here are just a few, in all their flop-to-favorite glory.

'It's a Wonderful Life' (1946)

Unthinkable as it seems, "It's a Wonderful Life" was not having a very wonderful life at all in 1946. Though award season was kind to the movie, audiences just weren't feeling its darker themes, and Rko Pictures wasn't feeling the money -- "Life" lost about $525,000 at the box office.

Ultimately, this James Stewart-flavored slice of Americana owes »

Chewbacca Mom Meets Chewbacca Actor Peter Mayhew, Joy Ensues

6 June 2016 2:20 PM, PDT

Candace Payne, a.k.a. Chewbacca Mom, continues to spread happiness across the internet, and her latest bit of publicity should keep both her fans and "Star Wars" fans alike smiling for some time.

Payne appeared at Fan Expo Dallas (formerly known as Dallas Comic Con) this past weekend as a panelist, where she held a meet and greet with fans. If that wasn't surreal enough for the mom from Grand Prairie, Texas, she got to meet lots of other famous faces attending the con, too, including George Takei, Stan Lee, and Peter Mayhew -- none other than the actor behind the "Star Wars" wookiee himself.

The joyful moment was shared on social media, depicting Payne and Mayhew embracing and sharing a laugh together. Payne and her family posed for additional photos with the actor, and she even scored Mayhew's autograph -- which the actor scrawled right on the mask that made her famous. »

Maisie Williams Calls Out Tabloid for Focusing on Her Dress Instead of Charity

6 June 2016 1:30 PM, PDT

"Game of Thrones" star Maisie Williams helped raise money for a British children's charity this weekend, but you'd never know it based on one tabloid's report, which chose to focus almost exclusively on Williams's outfit rather than the event. Now, the actress has offered her own alternative headline to the story, returning attention to where it belongs: the charity itself.

It all started when Williams saw The Daily Mail's story about her attendance of a masquerade ball in support of the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children, or Nspcc, a UK-based charity that works to stop child abuse. But instead of that good cause, it was what Williams was wearing that caught The Daily Mail's eye, with the site publishing the odd headline, "Unveiled: Game of Thrones' Maisie Williams goes braless in sheer lace dress and quirky headpiece at charity masquerade ball." The accompanying story went on to note, »

Top Movies That Launched Actors' Careers

6 June 2016 12:00 PM, PDT

It's the role all actors dream of -- the one that puts them on the map. Breakout movie moments are born from a combination of factors, including raw talent, the movie's reception, and a little bit of showbiz luck. When the elements are all there and the sun is shining just right, an actor can go from "Hey, didn't I see her in ...?" to household-name status in no time.

These performances are examples of movies that hit the "launch" button on an actor's career. A couple of these performers may have had credits stretching back years before that defining role, but this was the one that made the entire industry and the movie-going public sit up and take notice. Read on to remember when six of the most bankable actors saw their careers take off.

Superman Is Coming to 'Supergirl' Season 2 (But It Won't Be Henry Cavill)

6 June 2016 11:15 AM, PDT

"Supergirl" is becoming even more super in season two: Superman himself is set to appear on the show's sophomore season.

The show, which follows the exploits of the titular heroine and her alter ego, Kara Danvers (both played by Melissa Benoist), will be moving from CBS to The CW this fall, and the show is making sure that loyal viewers follow by also finally introducing the Man of Steel in the flesh. Though Supergirl's more famous cousin has been alluded to (and appeared in quick flashes) on the show's first season, he'll now have a proper role on the series, in what is set to be a two-episode arc.

According to Deadline, the plan is to introduce Superman (and Clark Kent) during the first two episodes of season two. While it's currently unclear if the character will appear again after that, the trade notes that it's likely, since his »

Hayley Atwell: Captain America's New Girlfriend 'Crosses an Incestuous Boundary'

6 June 2016 9:45 AM, PDT

Hayley Atwell has strong feelings about Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) hooking up with Peggy Carter's great-niece Sharon (Emily VanCamp) in "Captain America: Civil War." Atwell shared her comments with smiles and her usual cheeky humor, but she seems pretty sure Peggy would not approve of Cap's new love interest.

"Well, first of all she'd be turning over in her grave," Atwell said, via IGN, during Dallas Comic Con Fan Expo "She'd be like 'no.' And she'd inject herself with the blue serum and become a super villain. She'd break out of her coffin and ground [Sharon]. She'd ground her. Then she'd kick Steve's ass as well."

Tell us how you really feel!

"I just feel that, you know - I wouldn't want to date my great-aunt's guy," she continued. "It just feels like it crosses an incestuous boundary. And Peggy just died. That's even more disrespectful, right? It's like, »
