Is a Game Cancellation to Blame for Hideo Kojima Feeling Down?
Something Kojima worked on for a year has becoming "meaningless."
Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima had made it clear that he's upset about something. While we can't be sure, it sounds as if a Kojima Productions title or some other project he was working on has been canceled.
Kojima took to Twitter last night to write, "I cannot bear, and cannot be positive." He added in a later tweet, "What I prepared minutely spending a year became meaningless."
These comments are the source of speculation that a project Kojima was working on has been canceled. Kojima Productions is known to be working on Metal Gear Solid: Rising and and a 3DS port of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. It's unlikely that either of those games has been killed, but it could be something that Kojima was planning to show at E3 next month that's been canned (two Kojima games announcements were rumored to be coming at the show), but without him sharing more, we're left to speculate about what Kojima is referencing.
Last summer, we learned that Kojima was going to work on an adventure game with 5pb. He also dropped some hints about a new game, albeit nothing specific. When asked last year about the prospect of a Peace Walker sequel, he said he wanted to do "something bigger" but couldn't say "if such a game would be a sequel or not."

Who made him sad?!?!?!?

No, seriously, I want names because they are FUCKING DEAD!!! That picture really is kind of depressing. I have it scrolled all the way to the top of the screen so I can't see it because it makes you feel bad. Kind of like when you turn the channel when an ASPCA commercial comes on or one of those "feed the children" commercials, kind of.

Cheer Up Kojima-san

You're an excellent game creator and you've made awesome game (Zone of the Enders, the metal gear series, snatcher...Etc)
you shouldn't be bummed out. you've bought joy to all of gamers that love playing video games. And if it makes you feel better I enjoyed Castlevania lords of shadow and thought it was an excellent game (despite many calling it a God Of War clone). and the game is on my list of fun titles you've been involved.
personally i'd like to see you make a Gradius/Lifeform game for next gen consoles and possibly Contra.
Anyway...i feel ya pain dude. it sucks when a game you work on gets canceled even before it's even gets to see what it looks like or even get a chance to play said title (games like Starcraft ghost and the the next gen true crime comes to mind). but as long as you still get to do what you get to make games and bring happiness to us gamers we'll be behind 150%

What did he can this time?

I'll be very upset if they canceled ZOE 3 or any other remade better classic's! Not a smart idea Konami! Cancel the kiddish games not the big titles Konami!! Oh yeah Silent Hill? Canned?... Or Medal Gear Rising? lame to can those as well!

It was probably the game he was talking about last year that he said would be really controlversial. It was supposed to be a game that if he didn't pull it off right, he'd have to leave the game industry according to him.

...If it has to do with giving up using Snake as a guest character in the upcoming Soul Calibur game, I'm all for it.
Certain things just shouldn´t be mixed. Ever had a chocolate and ketchup sandwich? you have not, right? So there, I made my point.

Knowing the corporate sector..
Posted: May 25, 2011 12:00AM PST by izzariovonche
Konami probably won't let him even think about making something other than a Metal Gear game, an its probably stating to tick him off. I say he leaves Japan and starts his own company else where.

Probably a game about flying jokesmith characters.
Posted: May 25, 2011 12:00AM PST by MangoMan
Devising jokes, writting them on cards and throwing them into the cities they fly over, to control people and steer their decision making by mildy guiding their moods with amazing jokes. Then, when a city loses its control over the population, the flying jokesmith characters begin attacking it, slaughtering everybody with sharp melee weapons with serious, non-ironic facial expressions.
A Hideo Kojima game.

Don't forget to include at least 5 minutes of torture and/or bowl movement-related cinematics.

...could tell Konami to F**k off today and have other Companies (EA, R*, Sony, M$, Square-Enix, Capcom,THQ, Activision,Ubisoft...ect ect) rushing/tripping over each other to offer him his own studio tomorrow morning. You better believe his team would follow. Anyways....it couldn't be that big of a deal if he stays with konami after getting his project cancelled, i suppose. My .02

Maybe it was that taboo game he once talked about? The one that could make or break his career

That picture is emblematic
Posted: May 25, 2011 12:00AM PST by ricardo.sene
His wrotes, "What I prepared minutely spending a year became meaningless," could mean a new game recently launched or announced that had everything he was planning on his new game..
-
I thought about that...
Posted: May 25, 2011 12:00AM PST by JKC
Especially since the tone seems more sad than angry. If it had been more of the company arbitrarily canceling his game, it would seem he'd be angrier. However, if somebody beats you to the punch, what can you really say?
But then again, he's Japanese, and he's Hideo "Love Blooms on the Battlefield" Kojima. He doesn't seem to be a particularly angry guy. Who knows?

Okay, you guys didn't hear this from me. But, I heard Hideo Kojima is upset about not being able to add trophies to Metal Gear Solid 4.
Oh, wait. I'm sorry. That was what had me upset.

I am playing through MGS4 again right now and all I can think of is how awesome this would be if konami added Trophies to this game...(gold trophy) take down screaming Mantis with only your silenced pistol....

FPS?
Posted: May 24, 2011 12:00AM PST by Blastfurnace2k
Am I on crack or didn't he mention a while back he wanted to make some kind of FPS? Maybe with the ridiculously saturated market, that got axed. Who knows, not even 100% sure he wanted to make a FPS, but I swear I remember reading that. Then again, I was 100% sure that Capcom countdown site a month or 2 back was a new Ghosts and Goblins and I was way off.

Awww...

Did you guys have to use that sad looking picture up there? Dude looks like his favorite uncle died. Now you've made me feel bad.
Hope Kojima is exaggerating a bit, and it's not that bad. It can be hard for creative people to bounce back from losing projects they've been toiling on for a long time. Stuff like that makes people lose their spark, and want to retire.
-
Maybe...
Posted: May 24, 2011 12:00AM PST by GenesisDoes
It's not a game at all. Perhaps it's more personal than that.
If not, I'm assuming it's that super contreversial game he said he was developing. One thing I remember him saying about it, is that if it doesn't succeed, he may have to leave the Video Game industry.
-
I hope its Rising.
Posted: May 24, 2011 12:00AM PST by sunfire1
I can smell that stinker from a decade away. It's gonna suck, no Quinton Flynn and no Snake? It's the making of another "Acid" series all over.

feel bad.
Posted: May 24, 2011 12:00AM PST by thesickness1cam
You can only imagine how he is feeling. He is known for giving over whelming hours into his work and works himself almost to death.Sure his games are not for everyone but the fans it does reach out too, takes them to a level most video games cant emotionally.Hope to hear more about this.

Never a good thing
Posted: May 24, 2011 12:00AM PST by sj420
When something you work on and put your time into gets turned into something meaningless.
Thats partly why I refuse to work under people - which allows me to do my own thing. Thats what Kojima should do, hes probably well known enough to pull it off.
Stupid decisions by higher ups are the exact reason america didn't get front mission - and we should be Very angry about that.

Maybe it's the taboo project that could have resulted in him potentially leaving the industry.

I'm wondering if Mr.Kojima is upset enough to leave Konami for this. I could see him at Platinum games.
