I see this reasoning posted so many times over.... someone talks about a camera they are thinking about getting, and someone else weighs in telling them what they do or don't "need" in a camera.

But aren't standalone cameras pretty much a luxury? Since when is a device that is expensive and redundant for most of the population based on need?

I think people should buy the cameras they want, even if that camera is well beyond the user's skills. What's the harm in that?
