Wedstrom, in addition to Nikon's broad AF lens selection, there is an endless trove of very affordable and very high performance manual Nikkors (Ai/Ai-s) to choose from. Many of the manual Nikkors...

M4/3 threatening anyone with IQ . . . XD M4/3 wins the size competition handily, but will always be the bottom rung of IQ. Darn physics!

Btw, f/1.2 on the 50mm f/1.2 isn't about shallower dof, the dof really isn't very different than f/1.4. Its the spherical aberrations at f/1.2 that give the image a magical look. :-)

The Nikkor 50mm f/1.2 has a fantastic look at f/1.2 that other lenses don't pull off, I use it regularly. Nikon still produces it, amd for good reason. Best 50mm I have used, though I will say I...

If Sigma made a compact 50mm f/1.2 or a 105mm f/1.8 (I'd be fine with 100mm f/2), perhaps. They do not, however. Only other company with these lenses is Canon.

The sensor perforance and body design are great. Everything about the camera is great. Just wish I could use my Nikkor glass on it. :-/
-
I'd switch if they had lenses to cover the lenses I use. Yes I checked, no they don't. Killer camera!

Backbrace for a 1.5kg instrument. You must have a brutally difficult physical disability, or be 8.

I still use manual Nikkors. Excellent lenses!

Boissez, read that. I guess that's hard work for you.

Nice images, but since when does getting up early count as hard work? Dedication to the craft, certainly. Hard? That's a pretty low bar for "hard".

Canon and Nikon have both gone with letting crop telephoto users use smaller FL lens to take advantage of the crop factor. Like the photographer in this article does. Making fast DX telephotos...

Less costly to produce rarely means less costly for the consumer, but higher profit margins. Notice Nikon did not say it would make the lenses cheaper. Remember when everyone was told CDs were...
-
It would be negligibly smaller and wouldn't be cheaper because lenses are priced for their intended use and market, not per gram of material used. So they would get to spend for the R&D and...

Nikon knows that a 450mm f/2.8 DX lens isn't going to provide any worthwhile size savings compared to a 300mm f/2.8 FX lens. Canon knows this too. That's why Canon has all those fast crop...

A 300/2.8 on 1.6 APS-C vs a 500mm/2.8 on FF. Just a *bit* of a size and weight difference.
-
No, Nikon has not listened. The D500 is not real. Nikon does not make any of the lenses the photographer uses. How dare Nikon.
-
@Rusk, there are many photographers who don't constantly chimp in between shots because they have something called . . . experience. It might sound crazy to you, but many photographers don't need...

Pretty typical for live shows. Since many of the lights are mono-color, things tend to blow out extremely harshly. No way around it with current sensor tech. Especially since red and blue lights...

I have taken shots where 51,200 was still too dark at f/1.2. Live shows that are very dark. Would have loved to have had 204,800 available. Just because you never shoot in the dark, doesn't mean...
