Nothing like a handful of hit shows and a lifetime achievement award to cause you to take stock of how far you've come.

On Sunday, John Stamos was honored with the Timeless Icon Award at the taping of the TV Land Icon Awards. Speaking to PEOPLE on the red carpet, Stamos said his recent career resurgence has helped him realize just how difficult his recent "rough patches" were.

"I'm really grateful for this moment that's happening right now," said the star of star of Fox's Grandfathered and Netflix's Fuller House, 52.

With more than three decades of on-camera experience under his belt, Stamos has seen his fair share of highs and lows, and now he has a unique perspective as he takes in both his accomplishments and his more trying times.

"I had a different experience than most people. I get to watch my weird years in reruns," former Nickelodeon star Josh Peck says in the current issue of PEOPLE.

Peck got his big break in the 2000 movie Snow Day when he was just 12 years old and went on to work on The Amanda Show and Drake & Josh through his teens.

The actor admits feeling "awkward" during that time in his life, but acting gave him "a lot of self-worth and confidence."

Josh Peck Opens Up About Surviving Child Stardom: I Was 'Totally in Love' with It!

If Josh Peck has any regrets, being a child star is not one of them.

"I was just totally in love with coming to work every day," the Grandfathered star says in the current issue of PEOPLE of booking a role in the Nickelodeon film Snow Day at age 12.

After the film was released in 2000, Peck joined the cast of Nickelodeon's The Amanda Show and then, at 17, co-headlined smash-hit sitcom Drake & Josh.

Though he was exposed to Hollywood success at such a young age, Peck credits mother, Barbara, for keeping him grounded.

"My mom doesn't play," says the 28-year-old. "Even now, if I say something remotely fresh, she'll still call me on it."
