Highlights from the Don’T Breathe Experience & Trailer Launch Event

I’ve been fortunate over the last (almost) nine years of my career to do some unusual and out-of-the-box events celebrating some truly great genre films, television shows, and more. To get to do an Escape Room based on an actual film was something entirely different, though, as I quickly found out at the Don’t Breathe experience yesterday afternoon. The event also featured the official trailer launch for Fede Alvarez’s latest, with the director on hand to give us a sense of what fans can anticipate once the film is unleashed in theaters on August 26th.

Going into the Don’t Breathe experience, I was at a bit of an advantage, only because I had the distinct pleasure of seeing the film at its world premiere at the 2016 SXSW Film Festival, so I knew what to expect in some regards. Before heading into the Escape Room (which if you’ve never done one, »

Review: The Darkness Features Strong Performances & Direction, but Lacks Real Scares

As someone who has been a big fan of Aussie director Greg McLean’s work over the last ten years, it pains me to admit that I was left somewhat underwhelmed by his latest project, The Darkness. The supernatural thriller features great actors who all deliver strong performances, a story and mythology I thought was rather interesting, and some cool visuals, but ultimately The Darkness doesn’t offer any real scares and suffers from a resolution that feels a bit too convenient.

In the film, we meet the Taylor family, who already has their share of battles even before some angry ancient spirits show up to try and destroy their familial bonds. Peter (Kevin Bacon) is an architect struggling to keep up with the demands of his job and his pushy boss (Paul Reiser) while attempting to piece things back together with his wife, Bronny (Radha Mitchell), after cheating on her. »

Watch the Official Trailer for Scream Factory’s New Horror Film Fender Bender

Exchanging information after an accident on the road is usually the responsible, smart thing to do… except when the car you collided with belongs to a killer. Ahead of Fender Bender’s June 3rd premiere on the Chiller channel, the official trailer for Scream Factory’s new horror film teases the deadliness of the Driver.

Written and Directed by Mark Pavia (Stephen King’s The Night Flier), Fender Bender stars Makenzie Vega (The Good Wife), Dre Davis (Pretty Little Liars, Scavenger Killers), Cassidy Freeman (Smallville, Longmire) and Bill Sage (American Psycho, We Are What We Are). Evocative of the horror-thriller classics of yesteryear, Fender Bender brings you back to a time when the boxes on the shelf at your local video store beckoned you with masked, knife-wielding maniacs and a twisted sense of morals.

Under The Shadow Remake In the Works

Earlier this year and just before its well-received run at the Sundance Film Festival, Under the Shadow was acquired by Vertical Entertainment and Xyz Films for a worldwide release on Netflix. Now Xyz Films has teamed up with Wigwam Films in a new creative partnership, and one of their first in-the-works movies is a remake of Babak Anvari’s Iranian horror film.

The news of an Under the Shadow remake comes from Deadline, who reports that an “English-language adaptation” of Anvari’s film is on the docket for Xyz and Wigwam. Should the remake move forward, Anvari himself is set to executive produce the project, and he is also developing his next film with the two companies.

While the original Under the Shadow followed a family in Tehran during the Iran-Iraq War of the 1980s, the remake is expected to take place during the London Blitz, which would place the film in the early 1940s. »

Jurassic World’s Derek Connolly to Work on Pacific Rim 2 Screenplay

Derek Connolly (Jurassic World) has had a full schedule the last several years, and it just got even busier now that Legendary has lined up the in-demand writer to work on the screenplay for Pacific Rim 2.

According to THR, Connolly will step behind the keyboard for Pacific Rim 2, the sequel to Guillermo del Toro’s 2013 film that saw giant human-controlled robots known as Jaegers do battle against the colossal Kaiju with Earth’s fate hanging in the balance.

It was previously revealed that del Toro will produce but not direct the sequel, and that Steven S. DeKnight (Spartacus, Netflix’s Daredevil) will instead step behind the camera to helm the follow-up film.

Jon Spaihts (The Mummy, Doctor Strange, Prometheus) previously worked on the Pacific Rim 2 screenplay, with del Toro and Zak Penn also offering input on the story, but it’s unclear if Connolly will start from scratch or work »
