K-3 photo quality lower than expected

Photos from my K-3 are lower in sharpness and color saturation than photos from a friend's Nikon APS-C. Can anyone offer suggestions for improvement? I'm attaching some samples. These were taken with autofocus in green mode using the Pentax 16-85 WR lens.
