Yeah the G7X seems to lack sharpness at the pixel level. Images look like 12MP images converted to 20MP.
-
Based on what you describe here are my tips: Shooting settings in general would be the typical fast shutter 1/250 or less (in Tv or M mode), Auto ISO and shoot in continuous (burst) mode with no AF. ...

So the mega pixel wars has now gotten to video recording. I think everyone remembers that higher resolution is not everything and isn't nothing either. Higher res in ideal lighting (with all else ...

Sorry to bring up an old thread here. Has anyone been successful in running the G7X powered externally via USB? I went ahead and got the DC adapter and a 4mm cable to USB. What I found is that the ...

I'd say the G7X is still pocket-able but not as comfortably. I actually do pocket it in my jeans but you won't be able to crouch. Against the S90 you'd gain low light IQ and a wider 24mm lens @3:2 ...

f/4 is typically the sweet spot for most premium compact cameras between optical IQ and onset of diffraction. So if f/4 has noticeable CA, I'm curious to see how it performs wide open.
-
My concern was more on CA at wide open, does it get even worse? Overall I'm not trying to knock the G9X: for it's price and size it is a great lil camera.
-
Oh, no worries, to me the G7X easily surpasses the LX7 in IQ. In good light the 20MP really does bring more detail though many times I won't care, 10MP is fine. In low light, noise is at least 1 ...

The AF issue is subjective but real. I came from a Panny LX7 bought in 2012 and can say the G7X is lightly behind in the AF department: Speed: In good light is equal but in low light or low ...
-
This makes it more concerning: G9X @f/4 having such purple fringing/CA. Any real world samples/users confirming this issue? At high ISO in low light the G9X seems to fall behind vs. RX100 and G7X: ...
-
The G9X does show noticeable purple fringe at the corners. At center it's a wash.
-
Yes Canon appears behind in this area of AF. My former Panny LX-7 which was released in fall 2012 was just as fast and had MORE precise AF than my now Powershot G7X.
-
Is voltage an issue here? I saw the thread on the Sony RX100 and it seems the Sony is able to run on 5V, not sure of the G7X. What is the output of the Canon AC adapter?
-
I suppose it's a risky game, for me everything went fine. I just got back from a 3 week vacation and had my G7X put through its paces. All is well, no issues whatsoever. Wi-fi access point feature ...

Yes, I'm fully knowing I'm without the 1 year warranty.

Whoaa .. didn't realize my thread came back to life here. Let me set a few things clear: the G7X I got is not a US version, it is an Asian version unlike what I mentioned earlier. Sorry for that, I ...

Bought mine a couple weeks ago for $419, this seems to be the Asian version. The seller may have replaced the cables and manual with the US version but the retail box has Chinese writings on it. ht ...

Yes and to go back to the original topic; Basically: focal length (zoom), lens aperture (how bright), amount of software correction, physical size, price ... pick 4 out of 5 to prioritize. I'm very ...
