So...is the Zeiss 24-70 f4 a good lens?

I have all primes and I need a good zoom for shooting events. I shoot photos and video, but the zoom might be used a bit more for video. This is probably one of the more controversial lenses I have read about, every review is different. I honestly can't tell if this lens is worth my time. Some say it is good and some say it is not. It's just an overall mixed bag. Obviously, I have my eye on the GM 24-70 F/2.8, but that lens is expensive, heavy, and very much of stock.

I would love to hear back from folks that actually have or have used this lens. I do like how it's light and compact, at least compared to the GM.
