One more person was charged for being involved in the Mong Kok riot during the Lunar New Year, bringing the total number brought to court to 50.

For the first time, prosecutors also pinpointed the specific area where the incident took place in the charge.

Technician Vincent Lam Ngo-hin, 21, faced one count of rioting at Kowloon City Court on Monday. He is accused of taking part in a riot outside Langham Place shopping mall at Portland Street in the early hours of February 9.

The previous 49 defendants faced various charges over the riot which the prosecutors alleged took place in the “Mong Kok area”, one of the busiest districts in Hong Kong, between February 8 and 9.

Lam was not required to make a plea today.

Prosecutor Andy Lo Tin-wai said the prosecution did not object to bail, though he asked for an injunction barring the defendant from entering parts of Mong Kok, and that Lam resided at the address he had provided.

“He is willing to oblige the two conditions raised by the prosecution,” Lam’s lawyer said, adding that his client could also offer cash bail of HK$3,000.

Principal magistrate Peter Law Tak-chuen ordered Lam to obey the bail conditions and adjourned the case to April 28 for further police investigation and legal advice.

All but one of the 50 people brought before the court so far have been charged with rioting. One defendant was also charged with arson for setting a taxi ablaze.

The remaining defendant was charged with a lesser count of taking part in an unlawful assembly.

Those charged with rioting are liable for 10 years’ imprisonment upon conviction on indictment, or five years upon summary conviction.
