ZTE Spro Plus combines 8.4-inch tablet with laser projector

0

With ZTE only launching a couple of mid-range phones at this year's Mobile World Congress, the Chinese company's most exciting contribution to the show is no doubt the Spro Plus, a combination of an 8.4-inch Android tablet and a projector that uses laser instead of LED to project its image at 500lm. In our meeting with ZTE we were told the Spro can project an image up to 300 inches large but the optimum size is 120 inches. Projection resolution is Full-HD.

On the tablet side of things the Android OS is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 or 625 processor and 3GB of RAM. The device comes with either 32 or 128GB of internal memory. The enormous 12,100 mAh battery should be good for viewing projected images or movies up to 6 hours away from the power grid and adequate sound is provided by a built-in 2x 4W Harman sound system. Of course there's also an HDMI port for connecting other video sources and the Spro package includes a USB camera for video conferencing. The display is of the AMOLED variant and offers a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels.

The Spro Plus essentially offers a very easy way of projecting the digital contents of your tablet or streamed content, without having to connect a tablet to a separate projector. The projected image we saw at the ZTE booth looked decent but if image quality is you number one priority there are arguably better options around. That said, given that its large battery allows for extended periods away from power outlets the Spro Plus could be a potential tool for photographers who like to show their portfolio in large format while on the go.

ZTE says the Spro Plus will be available in summer but has not made any decisions on pricing yet. What would you be willing to pay for a fairly powerful Android tablet with built-in projector?
