18 December 2015 9:59 AM, PST | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

We've been throwing superlatives at Denis Villeneuve's "Sicario" all year, and it's hardly a surprise the white-knuckle, nerve-jangling thriller landed in the number two slot of our 20 Best Films Of 2015. At every level, the movie is executed with a high level of proficiency, and no element of the production is left as an afterthought. Two of the biggest reasons the film is such a success recently sat down for a conversation about the picture. Read More: The Best Cinematography Of 2015 Actress Emily Blunt and cinematographer Roger Deakins got together this week as part of MoMA Film's Contenders series for an in depth discussion about "Sicario." It's a rare talk in that it's not often you find actors and cinematographers speaking about their working relationship, and the discussion extends from there, diving into the process of collaboration and much more. It's a fascinating talk, and it's a reminder of the tremendous skill sets of those. »

There’s new hope for ‘Edge of Tomorrow 2.’ Here’s what we want to see in the sequel.

17 December 2015 2:44 PM, PST | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

If you were one of the people who saw and loved the criminally under-watched “Edge of Tomorrow,” you likely feel the same way I do about the prospect of a sequel: rather elated. In a day and age of far too many sequels and reboots, this is one I can say yes to — I want to spend more time in the fun, thrilling world of “Edge of Tomorrow,” and though making a sequel that lives up to the original will be a challenge, I trust the team behind it can come up with a creative new movie that doesn’t totally retread the first one. Our latest update on a possible sequel to the 2014 Tom Cruise-Emily Blunt sci-fi flick comes from frequent Cruise collaborator Christopher McQuarrie (who co-scripted “Edge of Tomorrow” and directed this year’s “Mission: Impossible” movie). Here’s what he said when Collider talked with »

McQuarrie Talks "Edge of Tomorrow 2," MI6

16 December 2015 10:55 PM, PST | Dark Horizons | See recent Dark Horizons news »

With "Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation" hitting Blu-ray and DVD this week, the film's writer/director Christopher McQuarrie has done some press rounds to talk about the reception to his acclaimed work on that fifth entry in the action franchise.

During an interview with Collider, he was asked about both his preparations on the sixth installment as well as his work on the follow-up to one of Tom Cruise's other recently acclaimed works which McQuarrie wrote - "Edge of Tomorrow".

At last report, Cruise had an idea for a sequel to the essentially self-contained "Edge of Tomorrow" which he pitched to McQuarrie, director Doug Liman and co-star Emily Blunt. Both McQuarrie and Blunt later said they were quite impressed with the pitch. Now, it seems things have progressed with McQuarrie saying this week: "We have the idea for the sequel locked and loaded... I don't know what I can say. »

Chris McQuarrie: Edge Of Tomorrow 2 Idea "Locked & Loaded;" Teases Mission: Impossible 6

16 December 2015 7:45 PM, PST | ComicBookMovie.com | See recent ComicBookMovie news »

Doug Liman's universally adored Edge Of Tomorrow, which starred Tom Cruise & Emily Blunt, was undoubtedly one of the best outings of 2014 and after an extended run in theaters, the film managed to achieve sleeper hit status with a worldwide gross of over $370 million. Back in July, during the promotional tour for his critically acclaimed action sequel Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation, Cruise shared that he had already pitched his idea for a potential Edge Of Tomorrow sequel to Emily Blunt, Doug Liman, & writer Chris McQuarrie. Later, in separate interviews, both McQuarrie & Blunt confirmed they had heard Cruise's pitch and teased that it was actually a pretty great idea.  It's been a while since we've heard anything new about the potential sequel, but while promoting yesterday's Blu-ray/DVD release of Rogue Nation, McQuarrie, in a new interview with Collider, shared the most intriguing detail yet: "We have the idea for »

Actors Passed Over by SAG and Golden Globes Still Have Chance With Oscar

Managing Editor

With last week’s announcements of the nominees for both the SAG Awards and the Golden Globes, a number of high-profile performances did not make it on the list. But fear not, snubbed actors, as you may still have a shot at Oscar come February.

Here’s a look at those actors who weren’t recognized by SAG and the Globes but are still in the hunt:

Michael Caine, 82, plays a retired orchestra conductor on vacation with his director best friend (Harvey Keitel) in the Swiss Alps in Youth. The film earned a best supporting actress nomination for co-star Jane Fonda, but Caine himself has not been honored with any nods for his performance. Caine would look for a best actor nomination.

Tom Courtenay, 78, plays a husband who, on the night of his 45th wedding anniversary, receives an unexpected letter that could change his life in the drama 45 Years. »
