Read my first post above. To get a 2000mm FoV from a 16MP m43 camera with a 400mm lens (800mm equiv FoV) you need to take a 5MP crop from the 16MP image.

Ok, I read your first post and figured out where I lost you - you stated:

"compare to the 8.8 x 6.6mm P900 sensor" and "so crop factors to 35mm are 2x and 4x"

but the P900 sensor is only 1/2.3" (6.17 x 4.55 mm) and the crop factor is 5.65x.

It doesn't really matter - we agree the m43rd loses the war only at/near 2000mm with all the best conditions. There are advantages to someone in nearly every camera.

There were times I got near "fill the frame" shots using the extended optical teleconversion (2x crop=1200mm) on my 1/2.3" sensor FZ200, where my wife did not catch a solid focus at 450mm, but I still felt the resulting image lacked detail, lacked dynamic range, and had excessive noise.

Birding with G7 and 100-400 (on the truck to me), Wife shoots with D5300

Ah, you're right, I had remembered it as 2/3" not 1/2.3", apologies.
