‘The Blacklist: Elizabeth Keen’s Dossier’ Review

15 April 2016 12:23 PM, PDT | Blogomatic3000 | See recent Blogomatic3000 news »

For those that have not seen the show (Why not? It’s fantastic!), The Blacklist – which stars James Spader and Megan Boone – follows FBI profiler Elizabeth Keen (Boone) whose life is overturned when Raymond ‘Red’ Reddington (Spader), one of the FBI’s top ten most wanted criminals, turns himself in and demands to speak solely to her… Filled with glorious plot twists, character turns and an ever-increasing conspiracy, the show is (at least in our house) must-watch TV.

The Blacklist: Elizabeth Keen’s Dossier is a lavish visual celebration of the hugely popular and critically acclaimed show. If you’ve ever picked up one of those “vault”style books, filled with not only interesting facts and info but also cool pull-outs, replica props etc., then you’ll know what to expect from The Blacklist: Elizabeth Keen’s Dossier. Though this book goes a step further and emulates an »

The Five Worst Working Directors in Hollywood

Recently I’ve been seeing a number of projects that seem like great ideas, but then when I hear who’s behind them, I go “ohhhh, nevermind.” These are five of the men who can be that catalyst, they can turn a good movie bad or make a bad movie worse, yet somehow, they’re still finding work in Hollywood. 5) McG Claims to Infame: Charlie’s Angels 1 & 2, We Are Marshall, Terminator Salvation Me putting McG on this list directly stems from my massive disappointment with Terminator Salvation. 20 Best Easter Eggs In 2015 Movies

4 February 2016 8:14 AM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Disney/Marvel

Let’s be perfect frank here: film audiences are gradually seeing their perversion for Easter Eggs, homages and meta secrets shape the way movies are actually put together. Instead of the previously complex process of deep, complex story-telling (obviously not for Michael Bay), they’re now charged with drawing relatable characters with substance, engaging complicated plots And an entirely different level of narrative designed to delight geeks.

Because that’s what Easter Egg hunting comes down to: we are the social outcasts of the film community, standing on metaphorical bridges with metaphorical notepads, probably touching ourselves over what amounts to trainspotting. And yet, somehow, we’re congratulated for it, as if watching films in entirely the wrong way is now a virtue. What a bloody world.

So to feed your perpetual hunger for Easter Eggs, here’s a run-down of the very best secrets, in-jokes and references hidden in 2015’s biggest, »

From Terminator films and Jurassic World through to trailers with the ending in them...

One of the trailers for Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice is the latest to ignite grumbles about just how much is given away in promos for movies.

This list looks at 25 films where the trailer has given away more than it really should in its promos - and it goes without saying that spoilers lie ahead for each of the movies. Don't read or click on individual entries of films you've not seen if you don't want to be spoiler sullied!

25. Jurassic World

Director Colin Trevorrow was amongst those who expressed disappointment at this one particular promo for Jurassic World. In it, we see Chris Pratt riding on his motorbike, alongside velcoraptors that surprisingly don't appear to be eating him. Presented out of context, the scene just looked a little daft. But »

10 Planned Movie Sequels That Also Need To Be Terminated

23 January 2016 5:10 AM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

20th Century Fox

It’s not exactly the most surprising news in the world, but guess what? Terminator: Genisys 2 has been wiped from Paramount’s list of upcoming movies, which means that – for all intents and purposes – it has been cancelled.

That’s right, world: no more Terminator movies. At least not for a long time. Are those relentless celebratory noises in the air? Indeed.

Sadly for Terminator: Genisys, the long-awaited (or not, it turns out) sort-of sequel to Terminator Salvation proved to be a rather underwhelming force at the box office. Though it managed to pull in $444 million across the globe, it didn’t make anywhere near the amount of dosh that the studio envisioned. Not to mention all the terrible critic reviews. Ouch.

This is joyful news, however, because – for once – Hollywood has put a stop to an unnecessary sequel before it had a chance to enter production (which rarely happens).

Why the 'Masters of the Universe' reboot may have finally found the perfect director

22 January 2016 2:08 PM, PST | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Needless to say, Masters of the Universe isn't exactly high art. The long-defunct Mattel franchise -- which began as a toy line first before being spun off into a popular Saturday morning cartoon series in the 1980s -- was a silly diversion for the under-10 set that was perfectly suited to being served up with heavy doses of sugary breakfast cereal. And yet so was Transformers, which didn't keep it from being turned into a multi-billion-dollar live-action film franchise that cut across demographic barriers. Still, it hasn't been quite so easy for He-Man -- Masters' blond-locked, impossibly-muscled central hero -- on the big screen. The first effort at a live-action film, 1987's Masters of the Universe, was beset by numerous production problems, a lead actor who could barely deliver dialogue, and ridiculous contractual stipulations from Mattel that inadvertently led to charges of Star Wars copycatism. While it certainly had its charms, »

Director McG in Talks to Direct He-Man Film?

22 January 2016 9:57 AM, PST | LatinoReview | See recent LatinoReview news »

He-man And The Masters Of The Universe is one property to always seems to be hopping around Hollywood. Cut from the same cloth as Transformers, He-man was another 80s cartoon based on a toy line that's placed a real heavy stamp on pop culture, for better or worse. Last year, we reported that Christopher Yost, one of the screenwriters for the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok film, was penning the script to the Masters Of The Universe film, and now, several months later, it looks like we have a potential director in the works.

According to Deadline, Terminator Salvation director McG is currently in talks with Sony Pictures, Escape Artists, and Franklin Entertainment to take on the film as his next project. Now, of course, the knee-jerk reaction is a bit of a cringe from me. Terminator Salvation was a film that looked amazing in trailer form, but when it came down to the movie itself, »

McG in Talks to Direct ‘Masters of the Universe’ Reboot

22 January 2016 9:13 AM, PST | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

McG is in talks to direct Sony’s live-action reboot of “Masters of the Universe,” based on the Mattel toyline.

The director made his feature debut in 2000 at Sony with “Charlie’s Angels” and followed that with 2003’s “Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle.”

The animated “He Man and the Masters of the Universe” series ran from 1983 to 1985. Cannon Films produced 1987’s “Masters of the Universe,” starring Dolph Lundgren as He-Man and Frank Langella as the villain Skeletor. The movie did not perform well, grossing a mere $17 million.

Set on the planet of Eternia, the story follows a warrior named Prince Adam who has the power to transform into the heroic He-Man.

Escape ArtistsTodd Black, Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch are producing “Masters of the Universe.” Alex Litvak and Mike Finch wrote the most recent script. Previous drafts have been penned by Christopher Yost and the team of Terry Rossio and Jeff Wadlow. »

McG in talks to direct Masters of the Universe

22 January 2016 8:45 AM, PST | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

The long-gestating Masters of the Universe reboot has gone through several writers and directors over the last few years, and it now looks like they’ve found their latest helmer.

Deadline are reporting that Sony are looking to target McG (Charlie’s Angels, Terminator Salvation) to take on the project. If McG joins, he will re-write the latest version of the script written by Alex Litvak and Mike Finch (Predators, Hitman: Agent 47).

Masters of the Universe was original set to be directed by Jon M Chu (G.I. Joe: Retaliation, Jem and the Holograms) who exited the project in 2014. Previous writers have included Jeff Wadlow (Kick-Ass), Terry Rossio (Pirates of the Caribbean) and Christopher Yost (Thor: Ragnarok).

McG In Line To Direct The He-Man Reboot

22 January 2016 6:38 AM, PST | Dark Horizons | See recent Dark Horizons news »

McG ("Charlie's Angels," "Terminator Salvation") is in talks to potentially direct the "Masters Of The Universe" reboot at Sony Pictures, Escape Artists and Franklin Entertainment.

The toys and famous cartoon series follows He-Man, a prince who transforms into a warrior and becomes the last hope for a magical world that has been ravaged by the sinister Skeletor.

The property was previously adapted into a live-action feature in 1987 by Cannon Films with Dolph Lungdren as He-Man and Frank Langella as Skeletor.

Attempts have been made over the years to revive it, but the film picked up steam thanks to a script by Alex Litvak and Mike Finch entitled "Grayskull," a title that can no longer be used. McG will oversee a re-write of that script.

Little has changed in the three years since "G.I. Joe: Retaliation" director Jon Chu was said to be in talks for the gig, that obviously didn't pan out. »

"Terminator: Genisys" Improves Over the Last Two Installments, For Whatever That's Worth

16 January 2016 11:50 AM, PST | JustPressPlay.net | See recent JustPressPlay news »

Terminator: Genisys is the best of the franchise since the original two. Now, before you diehards out there go all bananas, let’s agree that, initially at least, that’s not saying very much. Jonathan Mostow’s 2003 Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines was an instantly regrettable follow-up to James Cameron’s two masterworks (The Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgment Day). The ham-fisted humor and grossly ineffective CGI took the pitch-perfect source material, which gained international acclaim because it took itself seriously and operated with the gravitas and power of an emotional science-fiction opera, and diluted it with studio schlock. Fans didn’t want a parody of their beloved, and hard R-Rated, romantic sci-fi actioneer. Six years later, director McG was given the reins with Terminator Salvation, convoluting the mythology and tone with his typical crassness. It was better than Rise, but the franchise just couldn’t rediscover Cameron’s brilliance. »
