I think we all agree it was an exaggeration. But there's no denying that some elements of Canon's cameras are behind the competition, and the difference to an educated user is noticeable.

I very much welcome competition from Nikon and Sony (and previously Panasonic) in this market segment. Canon does a lot of things right, but let's face it, if they wanted to they could do a whole lot better. I hope the Nikon DL series and the Sony RX10III turn out to be a raving success. Might get Canon to just go for it, for once.

in terms of AF performance, the upcoming G7 X Mark II will tell us how serious canon is about speed. I hope they do well, otherwise i'll be buying my first nikon compact with either the DL18-50 or DL24-85.
