Is this why it is so quiet here? Smart phones? Lenses too big and heavy?

I don't think it's any quieter than normal during this period of non-announcements.

  1. Everyone that wants a compact already has one: G3/5/7/9 X
  2. Everyone that wants something better is sitting on the sidelines waiting for nikon's DL series cameras to be released/reviewed, or to see if canon's promise of increased speed goes through, with the upcoming G7 X Mark II.. or simply waiting for canon to fix drawbacks/issues with current cameras.
  3. The S and G lines seemed to have hit a dead end with no continuation in sight, some users aren't happy and have no reason to stick around waiting for nothing
  4. On the "lower" end, smartphones are getting significantly better; I'm pleasantly surprised by the quality of pics, in any light, of my Galaxy S7. It has it's drawbacks of course, but it's so good I no longer "need' to carry a pocket camera around, this includes my G9 X, unfortunately.
  5. Some want canon to jump into the APS-C fixed lens compact camera market - I myself wouldn't mind a miniaturized version of my EOS-M3 + 22mm
  6. Prices are high, and no one wants to pay high prices. I mean really now, the early adopters like me are getting tired of throwing $600-700 at a new product when it gets replaced so quickly with obvious issues fixed. The G7 X Mark II is a good example imo. Canon is such a big player in the market, they should be the ones setting trends, not fixing issues with Mark II releases.
