Hollywood Contenders: New Oscar Predictions for September

16 September 2016 9:43 AM, PDT | Hollywoodnews.com | See recent Hollywoodnews.com news »

Well, here we are. It’s the first set of Academy Award predictions for the month of September, when things get really interesting. Yes, now we can look at what Oscar could be thinking based upon, at least in part, what the fall festival season has brought us. Now, buzz from the various fests isn’t the solo factor here, but it’s one that is definitely worth utilizing. The Academy can be a specific bunch, so there isn’t perfect crossover, but in certain cases there clearly is a correlation. Voters will obviously fall in love with some of the same films before all is said and done. What you’ll see in this Oscar lineup I’m positing is some movement by the festival darlings. Not only has La La Land solidified its frontrunner status, we’ve seen things like Jackie, Lion, and Moonlight take big jumps, along with other contenders like Arrival, »

"Jackie" Sells to Fox Searchlight. December Gets Yet More Crowded

13 September 2016 10:09 AM, PDT | FilmExperience | See recent FilmExperience news »

The Oscar Race just got a lot more crowded.

Natalie Portman as "Jackie". Photo by William GrayWhile Natalie Portman may be enjoying the lion's share of buzz for playing the title character in Jackie (her best performance yet) if Fox Searchlight plays their Fyc hand correctly the film could be a major player across the Oscar board (Portman and Sarsgard are the only acting possibillities. Greta Gerwig, Max Casella, John Carroll Lynch, John Hurt, and Beth Grant support them well but in extremely limited doses) including especially Costume Design, Director, Screenplay, and Production Design. The Cinematography, Editing, Sound and Original Score are also marvellous but the film is a little out of the box challenging so not everyone is going to respond to it; in its own caged bird way it's as angry as Pablo Larraín's Chilean pictures.

As expected given the festival raves and the film's connections to Darren Aronofsky, »

Watch Will Smith Accidentally Summon Death into His Life in First 'Collateral Beauty' Trailer

8 September 2016 8:39 AM, PDT | Fandango | See recent Fandango news »

If last year's hit horror movie Krampus taught us anything, it's that you should never write letters to mythical figures. Will Smith's character in Collateral Beauty, sadly, never learned that lesson. If he had, he may never have written a letter to Death and accidentally summoned the eternal lord into his life. While that sounds like a killer pitch for a horror movie, the first trailer for the new movie from the director of The Devil Wears Prada is far from terrifying. It...

‘Gold’ Trailer: Matthew McConaughey’s Wild New Role Is Striving For The Oscar

8 September 2016 5:16 AM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

You know an Oscar-ready role when you see one, and the exhilarating debut trailer for The Weinstein Company’s “Gold” makes every effort to let you know that Matthew McConaughey is checking off all the boxes. An over-sized personality? Yup. A character inspired by real life? Check. An extreme physical transformation? Got that, too. “Free State of Jones” may not have been the critical favorite McConaughey was hoping, but “Gold” might just be the perfect redemption.

McConaughey, who gained 40 pounds for the role, stars as Kenny Wells, a down-on-his-luck sleaze who heads to the Borneo jungle with a geologist (Edgar Ramirez) and discovers the world’s biggest gold find in history. The result is a rags-to-riches boom for Wells and his wife (Bryce Dallas Howard), though with so much money comes new adversaries like the FBI.

Will Smith talks to inanimate objects in 'Collateral Beauty'

Clip It: Each day, Jon Davis looks at the world of trailers, featurettes, and clips and puts it all in perspective. In Collateral Beauty, Will Smith’s co-workers are really supportive. Really, really supportive. I know what happened to his character is a tragedy, but man, they are really up in his business. Ed Norton is stalking him in the elevator bank just to see if Will Smith will talk to him. Poor Ed Norton appears to be hurting just as much as Will Smith. These are just co-worker but they have lunch meetings to discuss how they can be better friends to Will Smith while also going through his mail. Do we want friends like these? The enthusiasm is great but the invasion of privacy? Not so much. I think they could take it down a couple notches. I really do. Like many an ad man, Will Smith’s »

If he had, he may never have written a letter to Death and accidentally summoned the eternal lord into his life. Coming Distractions: Will Smith reckons with love, time, and death in the Collateral Beauty trailer

7 September 2016 2:01 PM, PDT | avclub.com | See recent The AV Club news »

If you’ve ever spent any time wrestling with the concept of Love, you might be interested in learning that it looks like beautiful young British woman. Death looks like a beautiful older British woman. And Time very closely resembles Jeff the med-jack from The Maze Runner. We learn all these things from the first trailer for Collateral Beauty, in which Will Smith plays a grieving ad man who tries to deal with the death of his child by writing and mailing letters to the universal concepts he feels have ruined his life. Obviously, he’s not expecting a personal response. Maybe a form letter at the most. So he’s understandably knocked-around when the anthropomorphized manifestations of Love, Death, and Time—played by Keira Knightley, Helen Mirren, and Jacob Latimore—turn up to chat.

Will Smith leads all-star cast in first trailer for Collateral Beauty

7 September 2016 1:59 PM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

Today we’ve got the first trailer for the all-star Collateral Beauty that’s directed by David Frankel. The film stars Will Smith as a New York advertising exec who experiences a heartbreaking personal tragedy and becomes somewhat of a recluse, he ends up needing his colleagues to help him out and find life beyond the grief.

Alongside Smith is an all-star ensemble cast that includes Edward Norton, Keira Knightley, Kate Winslet, Helen Mirren, Michael Peña and Naomie Harris with a screenplay by Allan Loeb, this definitely looks like a modern update of a classic ‘finding yourself’ narrative but with a lot of heart. We think it’ll be perfect for that seasonal viewing time when it’s released later this year.

Watch the trailer and see the poster below now for Collateral Beauty, opening on 26th December:
