Colin Kaepernick’s Anthem Protest Set to Draw Attention From NFL Broadcasters

2 hours ago | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Saturday’s preseason game against the Green Bay Packers was not the first in which the San Francisco 49ers’ Colin Kaepernick remained seated during the performance of “The Star Spangled Banner.” Kaepernick also stayed seated during two previous games, but observers failed to notice because the quarterback was inactive for both games as he recovered from injuries. So when cameras caught an in-uniform Kaepernick sitting on Saturday, the media was taken by surprise.

That won’t happen again. Kaepernick — who has said that his decision to sit during the anthem is a statement against the unjust treatment of African-Americans, particularly at the hands of police — has promised to continue his protest in future games. That means broadcasters will be ready. And they don’t plan to turn a blind eye.

The 49ers are scheduled to open their regular season Sept. 12 against the Los Angeles Rams on Espn’s “Monday Night Football.” Because »

The Impala has a new backseat passenger in the first photos from Supernatural‘s Season 12 premiere.

After being resurrected by The Darkness, Mary Winchester is adjusting to all that life on Earth entails, like riding in the car alongside son Dean and angel Castiel. While she appears shaken by her new surroundings, the former hunter still looks comfortable with a blade. Good thing, too, because it’s not long before the trio are attacked, leaving them battered and bloodied.

Ava DuVernay Celebrates Minorities Behind the Camera at ‘Queen Sugar’ Premiere

3 hours ago | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Ava DuVernay made it clear that casting minorities in front of and behind the camera was a conscious effort on her part at the premiere of Own’s newest family drama, “Queen Sugar.”

“We had a majority women and people of color writer’s room,” the creator-producer-director told the crowd after introducing her team. She then waved for her African-American female post-production supervisor to come onstage. “A lot of people do not know that there is this position, and they don’t know that a sister can do it.”

The applause continued as Duvernay introduced her all-female directing team, who she hand-picked to tell the story this season. “Some of these women have been trying to work in television, had doors closed to them, that’s the kind of industry we work in. You can make beautiful films that go to Berlin, Cannes, South By [Southwest], Sundance, and yet you can’t get an episode on television in »

UnREAL Season 3: 9 Fixes for an Everlasting Creative Rebound

3 hours ago | TVLine.com | See recent TVLine.com news »

UnREAL, we’re on the verge of wanting our key back.

Just like the ladies lined up to find a husband on Everlasting, your reality-show-within-the-show, we fell hard for your charms back in Season 1. You were a funny, sharp, behind-the-scenes drama unafraid to skewer both The Bachelor and those who love to hate it — and you were on Lifetime. Lifetime! You were refreshing and fun, and we enjoyed your flawed characters as much as we adored watching them do dastardly, backhanded things to each other. Swoon. You were so dreamy.

Bunim-Murray Productions, the reality-tv company that helped create the genre with “The Real World” and went on to launch one of its most successful franchises with “Keeping Up With the Kardashians,” has set a new executive team. The production company has promoted Jeff Jenkins and Julie Pizzi to co-presidents of entertainment and development. Both execs will continue to report to Bunim-Murray chairman and CEO Gil Goldschein.

The company has also promoted executive producer and showrunner Farnaz Farjam to vice president of current programming and hired producers Erica Ross and Dave Sambuchi as vice presidents of development. The change in structure comes more than one year after company co-founder Jonathan Murray stepped down as the company’s top executive, ceding that role to then-president Goldschein. It also comes during a period of growth for the company, which by the end of 2016 expects to have seen 18 of its shows air across 11 networks.
