UPDATED, 10:18 AM: Jurassic World helmer Colin Trevorrow and producer Frank Marshall have confirmed what Deadline told you in January: Juan Antonio Bayona is set to direct Jurassic World 2.
EXCLUSIVE: Keep an eye on Juan Antonio Bayona as things heat up on the director front for Jurassic World 2. I’d heard his name way back in September, when it was denied, and then he attached to World World Z 2. After Deadline revealed last week that he exited that picture over timing, I am now once again hearing his name as potential director for the Dino sequel. Colin Trevorrow directed the Jurassic reboot, and after it grossed over $1.6 billion, he accepted the job directing Star Wars: Episode IX. Trevorrow wrote the sequel with Derek Connolly and they’ve waited to get a good script before looking for a director, but all this is going to get moving soon for a complex picture dated June 22, 2018. Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard starred in the first one and are expected back.
Back when I first inquired, I was told Bayona has a close relationship with producer Frank Marshall and everybody else there, so their talking didn’t necessarily mean he was directing, and I am told now by all sides that there are no talks yet, or offer for that matter. So all I can say at this point is, keep an eye on Bayona, who directed The Impossible and The Orphanage and is currently engaged in A Monster Calls.

how about a FEMALE?…
oh wait i forgot, this is HOLLYWOOD
Jada, is that you??
I one-up that with MINORITY FEMALE!
Your transphobia is showing
Dave Green should be on the top of this list.
Agreed! Dave is fantastic! And gonna help make TMNT 2 a monster hit
Said his agent and/or manager.
Any women on that list on director contenders? No? Big surprise. Let’s remember Irvin Kershner had no big special effects movie experience prior to Empire, arguably the best SW, so let’s not hear any bull about ‘lacking experience’. Michelle Maclaren is ready for a feature break out …
Pretty sure there’s a huge difference between TV’s Empire and the Jurassic Park film franchise.
Empire Strikes Back, not the television show
Interesting
Whoever they find, I hope it’s a good one. I really enjoyed Jurassic World and it was in my opinion definitely better than the other sequels we got in that franchise. That said, I really hope they go for a more thriller action adventure similar to the original and darker like The Lost World. Also please please please USE MORE PRACTICAL EFFECTS.
Billy Wilder once said,”Never do a sequel.”
Quick! Someone tell James Cameron not to do Aliens! It’ll ruin his career!
Instead, it just ruined “Alien”!
Imagine there’s a monster sequel and no one wants to direct it, because even though the job might make you rich, no one will ever take you seriously again as a creative entity.
yeah i didnt want ANOTHER STRAIGHT MALE to just be coronated in hollywood
so i must be clearly hating all LGBTQ community
#straightmaleidiot
A lot of calls for them to hire a female director.. How’s about the hire the person most suited to the job?
This times a trillion.
The Victim Parade would stop marching forever and its boo-hoo crybaby participants would have nothing to fill their empty days if experience, ability and skill were the only actual criteria.
Well, he’s a foreign-born Latino, so that certainly makes him a minority hire.
Why not a blind black transgender little person who made some mediocre indie dramedies or one visually bland run of the mill oscar flick? Instead they choose a latino who already made some great smaller genre flicks. Those damn sexist racist bigots!
A Monster Calls must be well-liked by studio
the pathetic disney star wars remake does not count as part of the 6 original and official films
But Jurassic World counts as part of the jurassic part franchise, so it would be proper to change the headline to ‘Jurassic Park 5’ director…….
