Speaking to Screen, Clarke, who has run UK production outfit Unstoppable Entertainment for nine years, said that over the last decade “it has become harder to find distribution, particularly to get seen in cinemas”.

The Star Trek Into Darkness actor also added that from a production viewpoint “it has become a lot harder to get things over the line” and that there is now “more of an emphasis to make films more commercial”, saying “you have to have the faces” to get backing.

To help a UK indie film get seen, particularly in cinemas, Clarke suggested that a bespoke promotion could be run to support independent films in the vein of 2-for-1 cinema ticket initiative »

Music Box acquires Us rights to 'Mia Madre'

19 April 2016 7:09 AM, PDT

The distributor has taken Nanni Moretti’s winner of the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury at last year’s Cannes Film Festival off the hands of embattled Alchemy.

Music Box plans a Q3 release after president William Schopf brokered the Us deal with Films Distribution co-head Nicolas Brigaud-Robert.

Mia Madre stars Margherita Buy as a beleaguered director juggling a chaotic personal life and a bombastic star, played by John Turturro.

The deal marks the latest film to be extracted from Alchemy, which has become beset by financial troubles. A24 recently took over Ben Wheatley’s Free Fire and another Cannes 2015 selection, Yorgos LanthimosThe Lobster.

“We’re delighted to have the opportunity to work with a filmmaker of Moretti’s stature, and to bring his latest to American audiences,” said Music Box managing director Ed Arentz.
