Are we witnessing the end of the movie trilogy?

17 October 2016 1:22 PM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

Simon Brew Oct 19, 2016

Fantastic Beasts is now five films. There's a further Planet Of The Apes movie planned. Whatever happened to the traditional movie trilogy?

(Light) spoilers lie ahead for Captain America: Civil War and X-Men: Apocalypse

Amongst the flood of movie news that arrived in our inbox last week, two stories in particular caught my eye.

The first was that War For The Planet Of The Apes, the eagerly-awaited continuation – and assumed conclusion – of the story thus far told in Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes and Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes – would be the conclusion of that particular story. That the new trilogy of films would be complete upon its release.

Only that’s not the case: director Matt Reeves has now revealed that conversations are taking place regarding a tenth Planet Of The Apes film, and the fourth in this particular narrative line. That »

Scooperhero News – despite New York Comic Con happening over the weekend, there wasn’t much superhero stuff to talk about at all. Spider-Man: Homecoming might have wrapped last week, but there was no footage shown. At least we got something from New York’s other crimefighters – the first Iron Fist trailer and the Defenders villain actress revealed. Elsewhere, Blade isn’t happening anytime soon, Ben Affleck doesn’t know what his Batman film’s called and Zack Snyder posted a behind-the-scenes Justice League video.

Planet of the Apes 4 already being developed

12 October 2016 5:00 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

War for the Planet of the Apes hits cinemas next year, but it looks plans are already in place for another Planet of the Apes film.

It was assumed that War for the Planet of the Apes would round out the trilogy, but director Matt Reeves has other ideas. “We know that that’s the ending, that it becomes Planet of the Apes, the cool thing about what was started in Rise [of the Planet of the Apes] is, that it’s no longer about what happens,” he told /Film. “It’s about how it happens. And stories about how are always about character and psychology. So in our minds, the idea that’s the end of the story gives us the chance to tell an epic saga that leads from where Caesar began in Rise to that world. It’s not about getting there and then redoing that story. We think it’s like a great Russian novel or something, »

Planet Of The Apes 4 already planned

Simon Brew Oct 12, 2016

Following War For The Planet Of The Apes, plans are already coming together for a further Planet Of The Apes adventure...

Mild spoilers for Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes lie within...

Well, we say Planet Of The Apes 4. But by that, we mean the fourth film in the new series of movies. In all, we’re about to talk about what will be the tenth Planet Of The Apes movie. For it’s all but certain that another will be on the way.

Next summer, we get War For The Planet Of The Apes, which is always a joy to type out. It sees Matt Reeves back in the director’s chair following his excellent work on Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes (that’s fun to type as well), having picked up the mantle from Rupert Wyatt on Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes »

‘War for the Planet of the Apes’ Director Matt Reeves “Absolutely” Has Ideas About Where the Story Goes Next

Bad Moms Spin-Off Bad Dads Is Coming in 2017

11 October 2016 8:05 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Stx Entertainment's raucous comedy Bad Moms has become one of the surprise hits of the summer movie season, earning $112.8 million domestically and $170.8 million worldwide, from a $20 million budget. While most would expect the studio to move forward with a sequel, instead they announced a new comedy spin-off entitled Bad Dads. Here's what the studio had to say in a statement about why they went with a spin-off, and other projects based on this hit movie.

"Where other studios have automatically green lit traditional and significantly more expensive sequels, Stx has determined those sequels on average are grossing 68% less than the originals. Instead, Stx has chosen to focus on extending consumer passion for the Bad Moms brand with a series of film spinoffs, a reality television show, short form digital content, and a robust consumer products program."

Deadline reports that the Bad Dads spin-off will hit theaters on July 14, 2017, which puts »

News On Potential Spider-Man Spinoffs To Hit “Before Long”

10 October 2016 2:00 PM, PDT | LatinoReview | See recent LatinoReview news »

Our minds may have been collectively blown when Sony and Marvel Studios first announced their partnership to bring Spider-Man into the Marvel Studios fold. There’d been a hope that the studios could come to some sort of agreement that would allow the fan favorite webslinger to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But we all knew this wouldn’t be the end of it. Sony has always been an ambitious company — one intent on milking Spidey for all he’s worth.

Prior to the deal with Marvel Studios, Sony took a stab at expanding their own in the Amazing Spider-Man-verse, introducing the kernels for what they’d hoped would culminate into such films as The Sinister Six and Venom. In short, there was room for growth in their world, and had they stuck the landing for Amazing Spider-Man 2, we may have had one of those films by now. »

Stx’s Family Tree Grows As Bad Moms Spinoff Bad Dads Secures 2017 Release

10 October 2016 12:47 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Rather than following the route of a traditional sequel, Stx Entertainment has reportedly teed up plans for a Bad Moms spinoff, and it’s already landed a July 14, 2017 release date.

It’s called Bad Dads and, as the title suggests, takes the relatively successful format found in Jon Lucas and Scott Moore’s maternal comedy – $170 million worldwide at the time of writing – and applies it to a male-oriented feature.

Little is known about the cast and crew attached to said offshoot, but Stx is bullish in its hopes to expand the Bad parents brand, mapping out cross-platform strategies that could entail a reality television show, short form digital content, and a consumer products program.

It’s quite the unexpected deviation, though the production house defended its decision via an official statement: “Where other studios have automatically green lit traditional and significantly more expensive sequels, Stx has determined those sequels on »

First Dark Tower Trailer To Hit This December

10 October 2016 12:35 PM, PDT | LatinoReview | See recent LatinoReview news »

Given how quickly pretty much any form of entertainment can be accessed, it’s made the release of movie trailers that much more important. When’s the right time to release a teaser for a film? How can we ensure it won’t get lost in the avalanche of theatrical releases — not to mention the countless other trailers making their way online.

It’s a delicate art form to get it just right, and oftentimes fans and film bloggers alike are quick to chastise studios for pushing a film either too soon or too late. But how soon should a film release a trailer in advance of its release date? Some films like Star Wars: The Force Awakens are able to get away with posting teasers over a year in advance of its release, but others aren’t so lucky.

The same could be said of the upcoming Dark Tower film. »

Newswire: War For The Planet Of The Apes director on why the apes have yet to take over

7 October 2016 4:25 PM, PDT | avclub.com | See recent The AV Club news »

At a New York Comic Con event in Times Square Thursday night, 20th Century Fox debuted the first teaser for War For The Planet Of The Apes. The trailer shows Andy Serkis’ Caesar—the talking chimp who has become the heart of these movies—going head to head with a nasty colonel played by Woody Harrelson. By the end, Harrelson’s voiceover takes over: “This is our last stand” he warns, cautioning that should the humans fail Earth will become a “planet of apes.”

That spot-on bit of dialogue, however, doesn’t mean the third installment in the rebooted franchise leads the audience to a time when apes reign, as they did in the original Charlton Heston film. “Even at the end of this film it’s still not the world of the Heston film. So there’s still this huge question, well how does it become that?” director Matt »

Nycc 2016 Exclusive: Talking War For The Planet Of The Apes With Matt Reeves, Andy Serkis And Dylan Clark

7 October 2016 12:49 PM, PDT | LatinoReview | See recent LatinoReview news »

Last night I had the chance to attend this cool special War for the Planet of the Apes presentation at New York Comic-Con were we got to see first raw footage shown from the film, which was about seven minutes long.

We were told that this footage was not even close to finished and that it would be totally different by time the film is released. I would say about half of the footage from the film we saw was actors in the mo-cap suits. War for the Planet of the Apes takes place two-years after the events of 2014’s Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.

The scene we saw had Caesar leading a group of gun wielding apes on a raid of a human compound by the sea, when they encounter a man carrying wood to build a fire when all of a sudden the man tries to »
