Gotham season 3 episode 9 review: Executioner

3.9 Executioner

Gotham is a bit of a one-trick pony when it comes to character development. On this show, either you die a morally-questionable character or you live long enough to become a straight-up villain. (That's how that quote goes, right?) For Barnes, the latter came to full fruition in Executioner, thanks to a little help from Alice Tetch's blood.

The problem with Gotham trying to sell the Evil Cop plot is that it looks a lot like its Hero Cop plot, i.e. the main character tension of one Jim Gordon. To be fair, the show seems to be aware of how uncomfortably close Barnes infected by a »

SNL's Alec Baldwin Says NBC Execs 'Kill' Political Endorsement on the Sketch Series — But Should They?

14 November 2016 10:10 AM, PST | TVLine.com | See recent TVLine.com news »

NBC’s Saturday Night Live is an equal-opportunity political mocker — even if it doesn’t always want to be.

That’s the upshot of a heated conversation Monday on Twitter that involved Alec Baldwin — a frequent host and longtime friend of SNL, as well as its current Donald Trump impressionist — tweeting that network executives “kill” any attempt on the show’s part to sway voters.

How naive you are, @DPD_

SNL tell people who to vote for?

Don't think that doesn't cross their mind.

But NBC execs kill that

With another riveting episode of Gotham set to air tonight, Fox has released a new promo video highlighting a good man’s descent into madness to whet our appetites.

Aside from the much anticipated return of Poison Ivy, a major reason to tune in tonight will be to see what lies ahead for Nathaniel Barnes. Since being infected by the blood of Alice, he’s slowly been driven mad, thinking himself to be judge, jury, and executioner. Knowing that “Mad City: The Executioner” might feature the final showdown between Barnes and Jim Gordon definitely qualifies as must see TV, or at least we’d like to think so.

Gotham Season 3 Episode 8 Review – ‘Blood Rush’

8 November 2016 2:10 PM, PST | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Martin Carr reviews the eighth episode of Gotham season 3…

Mind games, psychosis and mental imbalance are in order on Gotham this week, giving rise to the concise and punchy tag line which is ‘Blood Rush’. As Nathaniel Barnes, Edward Nygma and James Gordon amongst others suffer in one way or another from emotional flux, both self-induced and otherwise.

In truth the back and forth of emotions with regards to relationships plays only a small part in proceedings as Barnes takes up a majority of the episode. Battling as he does with the blood poisoning gifted him by Alice Tetch, this week the interest lays primarily with his symptoms and attempts to suppress those baser instincts. Chiklis who has had little to do aside from looking moody with a cane of late does well expressing the inner turmoil. Demonstrating a temper perpetually kept in check through years of conditioning and professional expectation, »

Poison Ivy Returns In New Gotham Promo And Images

8 November 2016 10:10 AM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

With just weeks remaining until the fall finale, Gotham looks to heat things up next week with what may be its most intense episode to air thus far this season. If the above trailer for “Mad City: The Executioner” tells us anything, it’s that we’re in for one hell of a nail biter.

From the looks of it, most of the white knuckle moments in this particular episode will come courtesy of the developing situation with Nathaniel Barnes. Seeing such a hard-nosed, by the book cop descend into madness provided an unexpected twist that has since yielded some compelling television. I and many others have theorized that he’s transitioning to becoming the Batman villain known as Solomon Grundy, but what’s been teased for this episode is starting to make me believe the producers may have something else in mind. My instincts tell me that we’ll »

Barnes takes a dark turn in a competent but ultimately underwhelming episode of Gotham season 3...

3.8 Blood Rush

This wasn't my favorite episode of Gotham ever, which is maybe unfair. It was perfectly competent in its exploration of Barnes' final descent into madness as a result of his exposure to Alice Tetch's blood. It was perfectly competent in its exploration of the complicated relationship that still exists between Lee and Jim. It was even perfectingly competent in the frustrating Ed Gets Vertigo-ed storyline. But it all just felt like things we've seen before on this show. Let's break it down, shall we?
