We also highlight how the domestic box office is quickly becoming a two-man industry, because they (Aamir and Salman) are the ones who are holding the big festive dates.

Since there are no major releases in May, the next update will be after the release of Housefull 3. Tiger Shroff won’t be included because the minimum number of films to qualify is 3.Read More

Shah Rukh Khan’s latest release ‘Fan’ has not performed well at the box office, but the actor says he never expected the audience in the heartland of India to like a film without song and dance numbers.

“It’s not a film that heartland audience (masses) will like. But we took a chance thinking hopefully they will like it, but they need song and dance. I am not unrealistic” the actor was quoted as saying by the Press Trust of India (Pti).Read More

The actor’s look as a twenty-something, doppelganger fan for the film was created by renowned, Hollywood special effects makeup artist, Greg Cannom – nine-time Academy Award nominee and three-time Oscar winner for the looks he created in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Mrs. Doubtfire and Dracula. In 2005, Cannom received a Technical Achievement Award from the Academy for the development of specially modified silicone material used for makeup applications in motion pictures. Fan Movie Review

16 April 2016 8:00 PM, PDT | Bollyspice | See recent Bollyspice news »

Gaurav (Shah Rukh Khan) is a hard core, die hard, fully filmy fan of Aryan Khanna (Srk). Not only that, but Gaurav shares a strong facial resemblance to the star he adores. His obsession becomes creepy and dangerous when Aryan Khanna refuses to feed his devotion. This rejection breaks Gaurav’s heart and he then becomes obsessed with making Aryan Khanna’s life hell.

What the film highlights are differences between love and obsession.

Fan is a love story of sorts.

Srk playing stalker and star is symbolic.

It reflects each one of us projecting onto to celebrities we see on the big screen and trying to find a little bit of our own lives in the films we see.

Does the world of films create a room full of mirrors for both celebrity and Fan in a world where finding ourselves is already a challenge?

How do boundaries get blurred? »

Review: In Fan, Shah Rukh Khan Desperately Seeks Himself

16 April 2016 10:00 AM, PDT | Twitch | See recent Twitch news »

The Bollywood film industry is a notoriously incestual beast. Film culture is so much a part of the Indian psyche that films are referenced and cross-referenced across all forms of communication from the visual and performing arts to political discourse and beyond. It therefore comes as no surprise that Bollywood films about Bollywood films are in no short supply, nor have they ever been. But Maneesh Sharma's Fan is another beast altogether, and one that is perhaps more interesting in concept than execution. To begin, it might help to have a little primer on the film's star and his recent history in front of the camera. Shah Rukh Khan is Bollywood's biggest international star. He's no longer the bigger box office draw, he's given those...

“Fan Is Shah Rukh Khan’s Best In Years” – Subhash K Jha Review

16 April 2016 8:24 AM, PDT | Bollyspice | See recent Bollyspice news »

Fan

Starring Shah Rukh Khan, Shah Rukh Khan…and….well Shah Rukh Khan

Directed by Maneesh Sharma

Rating: ****(4 Stars)

Welcome home, Shah Rukh. What a triumphant return to form for an actor whose career has been lately beleaguered by sub-standard scripts and mediocre directors. This time Shah Rukh is in the mood to kill….And we don’t mean that just as a metaphor. As this far-from-frothy take on the very complex star-fan relationships develops into a ominous cat-and-mouse chase, Shah Rukh grips both the characters—yes, for those who came in late he plays both the star and the fan—in a firm grasp that makes us …simply gasp.

Shah Rukh is in full command of both the characters. He gives both Aryan and Gaurav ample room to grow, grow apart and then clash in ways that shows what skilful scripting can do to a superstar’s yearning to excel. »

Shah Rukh Khans cameo a figment of someones imagination Srk-Salman to come together in Nadiadwalas film

16 April 2016 3:24 AM, PDT | BollywoodHungama | See recent BollywoodHungama news »

Last week, the papers were filled with excited reports on Shah Rukh Khan making cameo appearance in Salman Khan's Sultan. All made up, it seems. Says a source close to Sultan, "Shah Rukh Khan is not making an appearance in Sultan. Why should he? Do you think it would make sense to waste such an opportunity to bring them together?" The source also discounts any possibility of Shah Rukh promoting Sultan. Says the source, "There was a talk that not only would Salman and Shah Rukh come together for Eid with Sultan and Raees respectively, they would also be promoting one another's films. Not true. Salman has not promoted Shah Rukh's film Fan in any way. Though the trailer of Salman's Sultan is attached to Shah Rukh's Fan, there is unlikely to be any more mutual promotion between the two stars." As far as Shah Rukh Khan »

It is finally almost time to see the King Khan, Shah Rukh Khan in a double role.

The upcoming Fan is the story of Gaurav (Srk) becoming dangerously obsessed with his all time hero film star Aryan Khanna (Srk). Is this film highlighting the dangers of idolising film stars? Is it a film star’s perspective on calling out for privacy? Or is this film a study into the human psyche? We will soon find out on April the 15th, 2016.

Meanwhile, we at BollySpice had the chance to join in the #UKFanTakeover and attend a press conference with both Gaurav and Srk. Shah Rukh Khan's about-to-be-released film Fan is about an obsessed fan who would go to any lengths to get his idol's attention. It turns out that there is no dearth of maniacal and obsessive fans in Shah Rukh Khan's real life. Last week at an event a fan freaked Shah Rukh out with his show of adulation, and the star reacted with revulsion and anger. Says an eyewitness, "Shah Rukh had gone for an event. He was entering the venue when a lanky desperate-looking fan rushed to him and stretched his hand out for Shah Rukh. Shah Rukh's security guards intervened to stop the fan. But Srk who is always gracious with his fans let the fan show what he had in his hand, thinking it was a message penned on the skin.
