Ilana Glazer, ‘Time Traveling Bong’ Stars Talk Stoner Humor, Rejected Plots for Comedy Central Series

13 hours ago | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Ilana Glazer, Paul W. Downs and Lucia Aniello blazed through a Q&A on Saturday following the premiere of their subversive time-travel limited series “Time Traveling Bong.” The conversation was held at the SVA Theater in Manhattan as part of the Tribeca Film Festival.

In the three-part series, directed by Aniello, Glazer and Downs play cousins who whirl through history after discovering the titular time traveling bong. “Bong” premieres on April 20 (of course) and will air over three consecutive nights.

Glazer, co-star and exec producer of Comedy Central’s “Broad City,” joked that the team is inspired by a certain recent FX hit. “Have you guys been watching O.J.?” Glazer asked, referring to “The People v. O.J. Simpson.” “We think of this as Comedy Central’s O.J.”

The discussion revealed that Comedy Central shot down a storyline involving a young Bill and Hillary Clinton. »

‘Confirmation’ Reignites Clarence Thomas-Anita Hill Debate

15 April 2016 4:42 PM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

HBO’s “Confirmation,” which debuts on Saturday, is reigniting debate from some of the real-life principals who were involved in a sensational chapter in the Senate’s history 25 years ago: the Clarence Thomas-Anita Hill hearings.

The movie starring Kerry Washington depicts the 1991 confirmation battle as Thomas’ Supreme Court nomination was put in doubt after law professor Anita Hill, a former co-worker, gave testimony that accused him of sexual harassment. Thomas delivered a vehement rebuttal, famously calling the spectacle a “high tech lynching,” while the hearings captivated television audiences.

One of the most outspoken figures about HBO’s project has been Mark Paoletta, a Washington attorney who served in the White House counsel’s office at the time. He created a website called Confirmationbiased.com, which launched on Thursday and characterizes the movie as  an “unfair distortion of the truth” that features “imaginary scenes, fictional characters and a biased agenda »

Louis C.K. Cancels ‘Horace and Pete’ After One Bizarre, Money-Losing Season

15 hours ago | The Wrap | See recent The Wrap news »

Louis C.K. announced the self-cancellation of his money-losing web series “Horace and Pete” on Saturday. The comedian last week released the 10th (and now final) episode of the dramedy in which he starred with Steve Buscemi as the co-owners of a downmarket Brooklyn bar, but sent a follow-up email to his fans on Saturday stating that the show would not be returning. The move is not a surprise given the shaky finances for the project. On Monday, C.K. told Howard Stern that he’s “millions of dollars in debt right now” because he self-financed the series and distributed it on his own. »

‘The Night Manager’s’ David Farr on Writing a Hit Series, Whether There Will Be a Sequel

16 April 2016 12:58 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Although he cut his teeth as a successful playwright and theatre director, 46-year-old David Farr is forging an equally interesting career in film and television. After his teenage assassin story “Hanna” was turned into an action-packed fairytale by Joe Wright in 2011, Farr went behind the camera for last year’s word-of-mouth festival hit “The Ones Below,” a Hitchcockian thriller in which the lives of a young mother-to-be and her partner are turned upside down after a mysterious couple move into the apartment downstairs.

Almost immediately, Farr’s profile was raised by the airing of the BBC/AMC series “The Night Manager,” directed by Danish Oscar winner Susanne Bier and starring Tom Hiddleston in the title role. Based on the 1993 novel by John Le Carré, whose espionage stories have successfully been adapted in such award-winning productions as “The Constant Gardener” (2005) and “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy” (2011), “The Night Manager” debuted in the U. »

The Veep funnywoman’s co-star, Tony Hale, popped up during the best part of her opening monologue — channeling fawning “bag man” Gary as her cue-card handler. Outlander Recap: French Court Press

Och. M. G.

That’s really the only acceptable response to this week’s Outlander, unless your vocabulary and/or heritage means you’ve got a long stream of Gaelic curses handy for the yelling. Because good God, guys: Black Jack Randall is alive.

I don’t say that with surprise; like many of you, I’m familiar with the books and knew this moment was coming even before the first time Randall leered at Claire in the woods. Still, though, the mere idea that Randall lives — and that Jamie may eventually learn of his existence, too — is a juicy »
