| Student Film Awards |
The Hamptons International Film Festival is committed to encouraging new filmmakers who express an independent vision by providing financial grants and screening all award winning films. We encourage student filmmakers from all over the world to enter. This competition focuses primarily on films made by college and graduate school film students. Recent graduates may also submit thesis films or films made while in school, however, submissions must meet all of our general guidelines, including our guideline for production year.
Previous winners include James Ponsoldt (THE SPECTACULAR NOW), Bart Freundlich (THE MYTH OF THE FINGERPRINTS, CALIFORNICATION), David Riker, Todd Rohal, Russell Harbaugh, Maria Maggenti, Geoffrey Fletcher (PRECIOUS), Matthew Galkin, Mitch McCabe, Patrick Stettner (THE NIGHT LISTENER), Greg Pak, Ari Gold and Andrew Mudge.
PLEASE NOTE: Student Film Award submissions must be accompanied by a copy of the filmmakers Student ID. Also, you must note whether you are an undergrad or graduate student.

| Narrative Feature |
Featuring one of the most coveted awards in the U.S., our Narrative and Documentary Competition Awards are selected by a prestigious group of industry professionals. The Narrative Feature Jury Prize winner receives a package of essential goods and services valued at over $85,000 to be used toward the making of his or her next feature film and a cash prize of $3,000.
Films submitted in the narrative category will be considered for four festival sections: the Narrative Feature Competition (described above), the Spotlight section, the Conflict & Resolution section and the World Cinema section which has featured some of the best in contemporary cinema in the US and around the world.

The Hamptons International Film Festival is committed to fostering independent cinema and filmmakers' careers at their early stages of development. Our Competition sections honor emerging filmmakers work in narrative features, documentary features and short films.
Featuring one of the most coveted awards in the U.S., our Narrative and Documentary Competition Awards are selected by a prestigious group of industry professionals. The Documentary Feature Jury Prize winner receives a package of essential goods and services valued at over $85,000 to be used toward the making of his or her next feature film and a cash prize of $3,000.
Films submitted in the documentary category will also be considered for the festival's World Cinema section, the heart of the festival, which features some of the best new work in international and American documentary. Additionally, films will be considered for the the Festival's signature Conflict & Resolution category, as well as the inaugural Animal Rights: The Social Justice Issue of our Time section.
Films are routinely picked up for distribution following their HIFF screenings. IRIS was picked up by Magnolia Pictures and MEET THE PATELS was picked up by Alchemy following their screenings at the Festival last year.

| Narrative Short Film |
The Narrative Short film winner will take home a cash prize of $500 and qualify for Academy Award consideration. HIFF is proud of the many short film winners from past festivals that have gone onto successful careers and that have won Oscars. Recent shorts from the last few editions include the Oscar winnings films FEAST and THE PHONE CALL as well as the Oscar nominated films THE BIGGER PICTURE; BUTTER LAMP; GET A HORSE; PAPERMAN; ASAD; and HEAD OVER HEALS.
In addition to the shorts competition, the festival has more than 5 non-competitive programs for the exhibition of short films. |

MISSION & OBJECTIVE
The Hamptons International Film Festival was founded to celebrate independent film - long, short, fiction and documentary - and to introduce a unique and varied spectrum of international films and filmmakers to our audiences. The Festival is committed to exhibiting films that express fresh voices and differing global perspectives, with the hope that these programs enlighten audiences, provide invaluable exposure for filmmakers and present inspired entertainment for all. With prizes of cash & in kind goods and services prizes valued at more than $165,000, HIFF continues to support the artists that create some of the best films each year.
ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
The Hamptons International Film Festival takes place annually in October, with a number of additional events held year round in New York City and the Hamptons. The Festival is the premier film event on New York State's east end, and is an intimate showcase of some of the year's best offerings in contemporary cinema. Festival selections continue to play an important role during awards season, with a significant number of titles highlighted every year at the Academy Awards and Golden Globes, as well as the Independent Spirit Awards and Gotham Awards. Films in the 2014 festival received 11 Oscar wins and a record 44 nominations, including three Best Picture nominations. The Festival has also screened 6 of the last 7 eventual Best Picture Oscar winners, while no other Festival on the East Coast has done so more than 3 times in that time period. Additionally, the Festival screened 3 of the Oscar nominated Documentaries, and 2 of the 3 Oscar winning short films.
Our most recent edition also screened films that received at least 3 nominations in each of the major categories (Best Picture, Actor, Actress, Supporting Actress and Supporting Actor) as well as three of the Best Documentary nominees. 2014 was also the fifth year in a row that the Festival’s Audience Award winning film was nominated for Best Picture, with two such films (THE ARTIST and THE KINGS SPEECH) eventually taking home the honors.
Films are routinely picked up for distribution out of HIFF, and selected highlights of such films from our 2014 edition include the following: IRIS (Magnolia Pictures); TIME OUT OF MIND (IFC); LIKE SUNDAY, LIKE RAIN (Monterey Media); MEET THE PATELS (Alchemy); RUNOFF (Monterey Media).
The Festival hosts multiple competitions focused specifically on early-career filmmakers, in the hopes of bolstering their work at an important juncture and helping develop a discussion around their films, both within the film community and beyond. The festival also features two long-standing signature programs: Views From Long Island and Conflict & Resolution. In addition, the festival’s inaugural Animal and Environmental rights program will feature a small selection of films about these issues.

GENERAL RULES
General Eligibility
These regulations apply to all sections:
-Films must have been completed after January 1, 2014
-HIFF will not consider previously submitted films
-Films may not have been released theatrically or shown on television in the U.S. prior to the festival. We also prefer that films not be available online prior to the festival.
-We prefer films to have not screened on the East End of Long Island prior to the festival's dates. If there are any questions regarding premiere status, please contact us at programming@hamptonsfilmfest.org
-The Hamptons presents all films in their original language. Non-English language films must have English subtitles
-If you are submitting a work-in-progress, the DVD must be clearly marked as a work-in-progress or rough cut. The festival will only be able to consider one version of each film submitted and does not accept replacement cuts for consideration. Please take this into account when deciding when to submit your film.
- HDCam & DCP are the preferred exhibition format for the festival.
- A secure Vimeo link is the preferred submission method for all films.Filmmakers are responsible for notifying us when their passwords have changed. We ask that we have access to the films until all programming decisions are made on September 14 (our notification date). Please include your Vimeo link at the top of the cover letter section of your Withoutabox submission. If you have any questions regarding this, please contact us at programming@hamptonsfilmfest.org.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS
Agreement
1. I am authorized to submit this film to the festival.
2. All information provided on application form is true, to the best of my knowledge.
3. If the film is selected for the Festival, I give permission for HIFF to use images, sounds and excerpts from the work for promotional purposes in all media and on the festival's website.
4. I hold the Hamptons International Film Festival harmless from damage or loss of the print en route or otherwise during the course of the Festival's possession of the film.
5. This agreement constitutes approval that The Hamptons may present the film at the 2015 Hamptons International Film Festival.
