Channing Tatum is joining the cast of “Kingsman: The Golden Circle,” tweeting the news on Wednesday evening.
Sources also tell Variety that Elton John is in talks for a key role.
Matthew Vaughn is returning to direct from a script he co-wrote with Jane Goldman. The 2014 original, “Kingsman: The Secret Service,” was based on the comic-book “The Secret Service,” created by Dave Gibbons and Mark Millar, and follows the training of a potential secret agent to take on a global threat from Samuel L. Jackson’s Richmond Valentine.
Vaughn also produced the original, which grossed a surprisingly healthy $415 million worldwide. Colin Firth, Mark Strong and Michael Caine also starred.
Halle Berry has been in talks to star as the director of the Central Intelligence Agency. Strong and Firth are also expected to return to reprise their roles.
Fox has dated “Kingsman: The Golden Circle” for release on June 16, 2017.
Tatum’s “Gambit” movie was delayed last year, making room in the actor’s schedule before he reprises his role in the “23 Jump Street/Men in Black” spinoff at Sony.
He was most recently seen in the Coen Brothers’ “Hail, Caesar!” He is repped by UTA and Management 360.
Channing Tatum playing a villain would be interesting
Based on this and other articles I’ve read about the plot, I’m guessing he is playing as one of The Statesmen (the American counterpart of the Kingsmen).
I hope they put a African America agent in this instead of that races and ridiculous character they gave Samuel Jackson embarrassing to the community
Why ruin this awesome franchise by casting this idiot? He can’t act and is complete moron!
Oddly enough, Channing said the same thing about you!
Good news.
I am sorry, but I had read that Colin wasn’t going to be in the sequel. They had talked about making him a twin if they brought him back, but then decided against it. Unless he’s in flashbacks or a twin, his chances are practically nil.
Don’t be sorry, the director confirmed Firth would not return a couple of months ago. Now with that recent poster he’s either lying, changed his mind or it’s (the poster) meant as kind of a propaganda piece by the Kingsmen and is implying Eggsy taking that role.
Uhmm, have you seen the first ever commercial photo from the sequel? It’s literally confirming that Harry Hart is coming back. “Reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated”
You don’t really think Valentine would write it like that, do you?
Like others have said I don’t understand his appeal. He ruins everything he’s in. The cross-eyed freak cannot act to save his life. I don’t understand how they can ruin another franchise with this so-called actor.
Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
I have never, and still don’t, understand Channing’s appeal, but good for him.
WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? I mean “Kingsman” is not exactly Oscar material, but I still enjoyed the first one. Now they’ve gone and ruined the sequel. I won’t even deign to call him an actor, but he’s easily the worst at whatever it is he’s supposed to be doing.
Oh, and oddly unsurprising choice of words there, Channing.
Tates is awesome #GoChanning
