Why Clayface is the perfect villain for Ben Affleck’s Batman film

James Garcia on why Clayface could be the perfect villain to feature in Ben Affleck’s solo Batman movie…

Of any rogues gallery across the pages of comics, none is perhaps more famous and iconic than Batman’s. Frequent Arkham Asylum inmates like the Joker, Two-Face, the Riddler, Catwoman, the Penguin, Mr. Freeze, and even relative newcomers like Harley Quinn have had a substantial impact on pop and geek culture.

As a result, the big names on the rogues list keep popping up in new Batman adaptations. The Joker himself has been given the live action treatment five times (counting Gotham and the upcoming Suicide Squad film), and has been the focus of countless video games and animated adaptations. Catwoman has appeared across film and TV five times, and was even the focus of her own solo film starring Halle Berry (though that particular version of the character bears little resemblance to the source material, »

DVD Review – Yakuza Apocalypse (2015)

Yakuza Apocalypse, 2015.

Directed by Takashi Miike.

Starring Denden, Lily Franky, Hayato Ichihara, Yoshiyuki Morishita, Masanori Mimoto, Riko Narumi, Yayan Ruhian, and Raiko Takashima.

Synopsis:

A Yakuza Vampire boss is betrayed by members of his clan, and is consequently killed; the duty befalls onto his most loyal protégé to take revenge, and to comply with the vampiric-lore.

Bursting from the opening shot there unfolds a gory bloodbath of torsos slashed violently by the vampiric crime lord himself Kamiura (Lily Frankie). Once the massacre has ceased, the film may separate the audience into two camps: aficionados of Miike’s oeuvre will highly appreciate this introduction, and newcomers may be stunned in paralysis, uncertain if they picked up the right Blu-ray. Those in the latter camp needn’t fret, for the film does calm down for a bit afterwards.

Kageyama (Hayato Ichihara) admires the Yakuza lifestyle, and is convinced this will grant him the pathway to manhood. »

Hawkeye and Scarlet Witch Netflix spin-offs, needing the toilet on set and Godzilla winning at everything – the Elizabeth Olsen and Jeremy Renner Captain America: Civil War interview

Flickering Myth’s Oli Davis sits down with Elizabeth Olsen and Jeremy Renner to talk about their movie Captain America: Civil War

The room genuinely brightened as Elizabeth Olsen walked in. A cloud had just passed over the sun, illuminating our little hotel apartment with a welcoming glow. I swear I heard birds chirping as she started to talk about Captain America: Civil War.

“The first thing that excited me when I read the script was that it’s really nice to be necessary to the story,” Olsen revealed. “But [the Russos] do that with all the characters, they’re very smart. They let everyone have their own arc and their own moment. So to be the catalyst for the film was great. Because the rest of her journey is to figure out more specifically what her abilities are. And this has kind of become a surrogate family for her. She’s repurposed herself into the wor… »

Jeremy Renner addresses Hawkeye Netflix spin-off reports, does Elizabeth Olsen want one for Scarlet Witch?

Last month, Jeremy Renner declared his interest in a Hawkeye spin-off series on Netflix. “I’ve really enjoyed getting to explore the character more recently,” he answered in a Q+A at the Silicon Valley Comic Con. “The Netflix model is where all the character drama goes to now, you’re doing a superhero movie or a Netflix or HBO kind of model. So I’d be open to it.”

In Flickering Myth’s interview with Renner about Captain America: Civil War, we asked him what side of Hawkeye he’d like to see explored in a Netflix spin-off series…before being cut off by his co-star Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlett Witch).

“I’m so sorry…” Olsen apologised. “This keeps coming up, because it was a joke that people took seriously. We were doing press and someone asked, ‘How do you feel about Netflix, and Hawkeye having his own spin-off about his family? »

Jeremy Renner talks Hawkeye being sidelined by Joss Whedon in The Avengers, teases Barton family sub-plot for future

In Flickering Myth’s interview with Jeremy Renner about Captain America: Civil War, we brought up Hawkeye’s treatment in Joss Whedon’s first Avengers movie. Clint Barton spent most of the film brainwashed by Tom Hiddleston’s Loki, a fact that disappointed many fans. Since then, however, Hawkeye has become considerably more fleshed out.

“That was actually talked about with Joss,” Renner recalled about giving Clint a family in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. “I remember when [Mark] Ruffalo was just coming on with me and [Robert] Downey Jr – and we talked about that idea. I can’t really speak to the specifics of it because I still think things may happen that we did talk about.”

“I remember when Joss sent me the script and the notes, which said ‘all that amazing stuff we talked about is not in this. You’re in it a lot! But you’re hypnotised the entire time. »

Everybody knows the story of Moby Dick. Even if you’ve never read Herman Melville’s novel published in 1850, you’ve probably heard of the great whale and Captain Ahab’s obsessive quest to defeat it. The less familiar tale is the one that inspired Melville to write his great American novel, a tale published by Nathaniel Philbrick in his 2000 book ‘In the Heart of the Sea: The Tragedy of the Whaleship Essex‘. Update on Enzo Amore’s injury at WWE Payback

Last night at WWE Payback, the show got off to a shaky start when Enzo Amore suffered a very scary injury during his tag team match against The Vaudevillains. Enzo was thrown through under the ropes, but his timing or position was slightly off and the WWE Superstar hit his face into the second rope, whip-lashing his head into the mat. Simon Gotch of the Vaudevillains tried to pick him up, but Enzo didn’t move. Doctors came down and the match was called off, and Enzo was stretchered out of the arena.

The latest update is that Enzo suffered a severe concussion from the spot, but has not broken any bones or suffered any spinal damage. Those close to him (via Wrestling Observer) have said that Enzo remembers everything before the match and was able to move all his limbs. He was discharged from the hospital before the show was over. »
