Kevin Feige Says The Marvel Cinematic Universe Will Be ‘Very Different’ After Infinity War

It seems a little premature to be talking about Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe when Phase 3 is still several weeks away from launch. Nonetheless, Marvel’s head honcho Kevin Feige sat down with Entertainment Weekly for their Captain America: Civil War-featured issue to run over the upcoming changes. And according to him, Phase 3 will go out with a bang after part 2 of Avengers: Infinity War.

“I think you look at comics as a guide. I think there will be a finality to moments of Phase Three, as well as new beginnings that will mark a different, a very different, a distinctively different chapter in what will someday be a complete first saga made up of three phases,”  Feige says.

This jives with previous hints from the Russo Brothers and Feige, suggesting that both Civil War and Avengers: Infinity Wars will be somewhat controversial and make serious changes to »

Detour Review [Tribeca 2016]

Writer/director Christopher Smith’s Detour has all the hallmarks of a noir thriller: law student and basically nice guy Harper (Tye Sheridan) falls into the bad company of Johnny (Emory Cohen) and his stripper girlfriend Cherry (Bel Powley) during a drunken binge at a bar. Harper’s mother is in a coma after a car accident and he believes that his stepfather Vincent (Stephen Moyer) is responsible. Seeing a chance for some quick cash, Johnny offers a deal: for $20,000 he’ll drive with Harper to Vegas and knock off Vincent. Harper agrees, but wakes up the next morning with Johnny banging on his door and has a quick change of heart. Johnny won’t take no for an answer, so off Harper goes on a road trip to either kill his stepfather, or find a way out of his predicament. But nothing, as the cliché goes, is what it seems. »

Confirmation Review

HBO’s Confirmation will inevitably receive comparisons to FX’s absorbingly addictive The People V Oj Simpson.

Both the mini-series and the latest film from director Rick Famuyiwa (Dope) tackle hard-hitting racial tensions, the ever-watching media eye and behind-the-scenes public figure intimacy to paint an encompassing, vivid portrait on public perception vs. factual evidence. Where the former, of course, focused on the long-winded, heavily-sensationalized legal dispute of the former football player-turned-potential wife murder Oj Simpson, played by Cuba Gooding Jr, Confirmation looks at the uphill struggle endeared by University of Oklahoma professor Anita Hill (Kerry Washington), as she bravely testifies before the Senate Judiciary Committee against sexual harassment claims towards her former boss, Judge Clarence Thomas (Wendell Pierce), on the eve of his Supreme Court chair ruling.

And though both take place in 1994-1995 and 1991, respectively, there’s intentionally a relevance and a timeliness to each that makes their stories as poignant, »

Courtney B. Vance Joins Tom Cruise In The Mummy

Courtney B. Vance is coming off some absolutely incredible work in FX’s excellent The People Vs. Oj Simpson, and it seems as if Hollywood has sat up and taken notice of his performance, as the actor has been cast alongside Tom Cruise in Universal’s The Mummy.

The report didn’t include any details on Vance’s role here, other than the fact that he’s playing a colonel (who will likely share a lot of scenes with Cruise’s Navy Seal). Regardless of how heavily he factors into things, Vance is a very strong talent who just recently did some career best work in the aforementioned FX series, so we’re definitely excited to see him join a high-profile film like this one.

Vance will be part of a cast that also includes Sofia Boutella, Annabelle Wallis and Jake Johnson, while Alex Kurtzman will direct from a script by Jon Spaihts. »

The Man Who Knew Infinity Review [Tribeca 2016]

The Man Who Knew Infinity seeks to tell a unique and, for me at least, relatively unknown story about a mathematics prodigy who faces discrimination and homesickness in his quest to prove his own theorems. Its subject is Srinivasa Ramanujen, perhaps one of the most influential mathematicians of the 20th Century, whose work shaped the future of the discipline and whose theorems still confound mathematicians to this day.

Dev Patel stars as Ramanujen, a young man from Madras, India who can calculate complex mathematical theorems without the benefit of an education or even an understanding of the formal laws of mathematics. When he sends some of his work to Cambridge mathematician G.H. Hardy (Jeremy Irons) in the hopes that the professor will help him to get it published, Hardy sees Ramanujen’s brilliance for what it is. Leaving his wife (Devika Bhise) and mother (Arundhati Nag) in Madras, Ramanujen »

The Loner Review [Tribeca 2016]

While I enjoyed The Loner, I’ll admit that it doesn’t initially have its bearings straight. Writer/Director Daniel Grove opens on an Iranian child being beckoned into martyrdom, but then a tonal shift to 1980s Los Angeles brings about neon-drenched noir settings that some may struggle to interpret. We try to make connections, yet the puzzle is still unclear in its early stages.

Fortunately, as clarity explains itself, a neo-noir-ish, stranger-with-no-name kind of gangster film plays out, exploring an Iranian/Russian underground region of La that few have witnessed (if it even exists?). Patience is certainly a virtue, but you’ll be paid off in time – just don’t jump to any jumbled conclusions too quickly.

Reza Sixo Safai stars as Behrouz, a former Iranian gangster who finds himself being sucked back into a sleazy underworld crime syndicate. His old boss, Cirrus (Parviz Sayyad), accuses him of stealing merchandise, »

Don’t Judge Me For Liking Skrillex’s Mashup Of Drake’s “Hotline Bling”

As a disclaimer, let me go on the record saying that in no way do I endorse either Drake or Rihanna… I guess Skrillex is okay though. The bass music mastermind has revealed a mashup of the two artists’ tracks “Hotline Bling” and “Bitch Better Have My Money” that hails back to his stylistic roots.

After all, this is the Skrillex I fell in love with back when he released his debut Ep on MySpace. It’s not quite dubstep, not quite electro, and not quite pop music – rather, it draws from all those things, but in a way that only the former From First to Last frontman could manage.

Color me thankful that Skrillex hasn’t lost his touch, and that as jaded as I may be I didn’t automatically put it in the same pile as his Jack Ü releases. I want to hear your opinion of it as well, »

Dwayne Johnson And Kevin Hart Eyed For Jumanji Remake

Deadline is reporting that Sony has their sights set on the dynamic duo of Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart for their upcoming Jumanji remake. The two actors, who are amongst the busiest in Hollywood, will soon be headlining New Line’s Central Intelligence and recently hosted the MTV Movie Awards, proving that they’ve got great chemistry together and make for a very entertaining pair.

Neither actor has signed on just yet, though the studio is trying their best to make it work. Unfortunately though, they may have a tough time. As we mentioned above, both Johnson and Hart are exceptionally busy and have very full schedules. Finding a time that works for both of them will prove to be quite challenging, but we’re hoping Sony can make it work out.

As for the remake itself, it is of course based on the 1995 film of the same name, which »

Armin Van Buuren Revisits Gaia Project With “Inyathi”

As maligned as he may be by trance elitists worldwide, Armin Van Buuren‘s actually kept a foot in the genre’s more underground side to a respectable degree. Well before the success of events like Dreamstate prompted other trance figureheads to return to their stylistic roots, he was releasing and performing “pure trance” with longtime collaborator Benno De Goeij as Gaia – and after several months of silence, the duo have revealed a new track titled “Inyathi.”

An uplifting piece of classic trance set at the now practically fetishized 138 Bpm, “Inyathi” carries the listener through a euphoric aural journey that undergoes engaging changes. After building to an exhilarating peak, the track drops into a melodic breakdown that provides a welcome respite before an emotionally charged progression brings the energy back up.

Who knows – perhaps a Gaia set at the next Dreamstate massive is in order?

DubVision’s “Million Miles” Ft. Denny White Is As Meh As The Main Stage Gets

Edm has become so oversaturated that a track doesn’t even need to urge me to put my fucking hands up to get on my nerves anymore. DubVision was friendly enough to make my realize this by releasing a lackluster Denny White collaboration titled “Million Miles.”

Before you make a beeline to the comments to make whatever defensive argument people who just aren’t that into music make, keep in mind that I have no problem with other mainstream music featuring Denny White. The main culprit in this case is the recycled synth lead and cookie cutter song structure – and since DubVision’s name is on that part, I’ll place the blame squarely on them.

Don’t get me wrong, though, if you’re basic you’ll probably love DubVision‘s “Million Miles” featuring Denny White. If that’s the case, make sure to lay out all your reasons »

Two More Join The Cast Of Spider-Man: Homecoming

Casting on Spider-Man: Homecoming is in full swing now (pun intended), as two more actors have joined the upcoming reboot. Deadline reports that both Tony Revolori and Laura Harrier have boarded the project and they will both be playing students. The two will join Tom Holland, Zendaya, Marisa Tomei and possibly Michael Keaton, who is said to be wanted for a villainous role.

As for specifics on the parts that these newcomers will be playing, we really only know about Revolori’s role. Apparently it’s a significant one but there seem to be conflicting reports. Deadline thinks he’s playing Peter Parker’s high school nemesis, while The Wrap believes he’ll be stepping into the role of Manuel, Peter’s friend. Either way, he’ll probably factor into the plot quite heavily.

With production set to get underway this summer, under the direction of Cop Car helmer Jon Watts, »

Kshmr Announces Title And Release Date Of Debut Ep

2016 is turning out to be a year of firsts for progressive house DJ/producer Kshmr. The American-born artist of Kashmiri-Indian descent released his first solo track on Beatport in the form of “Wild Card,” and he’s followed it up with the announcement of a debut Ep titled The Lion Across The Field.

Interestingly, the album draws inspiration from the children’s book of its namesake that Kshmr himself wrote a number of years ago. Over the course of his headlining sets at the Sahara Tent during both weekends of Coachella, he will be showcasing the composition in its entirety along with specially tailored visual and stage elements.

So, there you have it: Apparently Kshmr wrote a children’s book one time. Somehow, though, that doesn’t seem all that out of character.

The electronic music adaptation of The Lion Across The Field is slated for release on May 13th through Spinnin’ Records. »

SFX Entertainment To Auction Off Flavorus Next

The ongoing developments of Edm conglomerate SFX Entertainment‘s chapter 11 bankruptcy are turning out to be one of the more chronicled undercurrents of the 2016 festival season. Shortly after declaring bankruptcy, the corporation announced that it would auction off Beatport and Fame House, and documents from the proceedings reveal that ticketing platform Flavorus is next on the list.

Those following the proceedings will recall that opening bids for Beatport will begin on April 28th for the sale of the company to be finalized on May 5th. An announcement dated April 7th reveals that the opening bids for Flavorus will commence on May 19th, with the auction taking place on the 23rd and the sale hearing on the 26th of the same month.

The full announcement is below:

Jack Ü Bring Kanye West, AlunaGeorge And Kiesza Onstage At Coachella

16 April 2016 12:38 AM, PDT

The first weekend of Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival isn’t even halfway finished, but footage of one of its defining moments has already found its way to the masses. A matter of hours ago, for instance, Jack Ü brought a laundry list of artists onstage during their performance at the Outdoor Theatre stage.

AlunaGeorge, Kiesza and Post Malone made appearances during the Skrillex and Diplo side project’s set – but the most significant artist to accompany them onstage was none other than Kanye West. However, to what end remains unclear; Yeezus did little more than stand around and try to look cool while the Edm power duo transitioned between his tracks “Send It Up” and “Power.”

Alas, nothing in their performance would suggest that Kanye West will be featured on a track that could serve as Jack Ü‘s 2016 equivalent of last year’s “Where Are Ü Now, »

Night School Review [Tribeca 2016]

15 April 2016 9:00 PM, PDT

We’ve heard a lot about the crisis of education in America – about poverty, about the dropout rate, about prohibitive testing measures, about charter schools and teacher salaries and the slow decline of American education having any sort of claim to intellectual ascendancy. And while politicians can shout that no child should be left behind, they still are, they have been, and they will be. But there are some children who have now become adults and who, for a multitude of reasons, long to finish their education. Night School, a documentary from Andrew Cohn, seeks to tell at least a few of their stories.

Night School focuses on three people attending a high school for adult learners in inner-city Indianapolis, a city that, in 2005, had one of the lowest high school graduation rates of any large American metropolis.

All three students come from differing circumstances: Greg, a single father, left »

Parents Review [Tribeca 2016]

15 April 2016 7:00 PM, PDT

The world is awash in coming-of-age stories about children leaving home and young people learning how to be adults, but rarely does one see a story about adults learning how to be young people. That’s the subject of Danish director Christian Tafdrup’s Parents, a story about empty-nest syndrome and the adults among us seeking the freedom, and even the heartbreak, of youth.

Parents opens with Kjeld (Soren Malling) and Vibeke (Bodil Jorgensen), two parents past middle age with a grown son Esben (Anton Honik) just moving out. Faced with an empty nest, the pair lacks anything to say to one another as they rattle around their now too large home. That’s when Kjeld finds out that their old student apartment, just around the corner from their son, has gone up for sale.

The pair pull out their roots and move back to the site of their youthful love affair. »

Backwoods Music Festival Steps It Up With 2016 Lineup

15 April 2016 3:22 PM, PDT

Backwoods Music Festival may be one of the more out-of-the-way options for modern day festival goers, but its organizers have found ways to make it an even bigger spectacle. This week, they released the official lineup for the 2016 edition that makes that of last year look minuscule by comparison.

Where last year’s roster was topped by the names Odesza, Porter Robinson and Infected Mushroom, this year’s installment will feature performances by the likes of Nero, Big Gigantic, and Nahko and Medicine For The People. Autograf, Hippie Sabotage and Illenium also stand out among the dozens of other artists slated to perform at Backwoods Music Festival, which will place redoubled emphasis on side activities and production elements in 2016.

Backwoods Music Festival will take place from September 2nd-4th at Tatanka Ranch in Stroud, Oklahoma. After looking at the full lineup announcement below, make a trip down to the comments »

Neil Gaiman Is Working On A Six-Part TV Miniseries For Good Omens

15 April 2016 2:44 PM, PDT

Because American Gods wasn’t enough work on its own, author Neil Gaiman is readying up a project focused on adapting another of his fantasy novels, Good Omens, for the small screen. Set to be a six-part event series, Gaiman made the official announcement at a memorial event for Terry Pratchett this week, who co-authored the novel with him back in 1990, and passed away March 2015.

Interestingly, the duo apparently had a deal where they would only ever work on a Good Omens adaptation together. But Gaiman was given a posthumous letter by Pratchett giving his blessing to move forward with the series himself if he ever chose to do so. Thankfully for fans, he has.

Although Gaiman had previously declined to adapt the novel, explaining, “Terry and I had a deal that we would only work on ‘Good Omens’ things together,” Pratchett left a letter posthumously, giving his blessing to »

Ratchet And Clank Debuts Three New Clips From The Upcoming Animated Movie

15 April 2016 2:21 PM, PDT

We’re weeks away from the launch of Ratchet and Clank, what might be the first truly great movie adaptation of a video game (crosses fingers). In preparation for the film’s release on April 29, Gramercy Pictures has launched three new movie clips from the animated flick to whet fans’ appetites for the hilarious adventures of the titular Lombax and his robot sidekick.

Based on the 2002 PlayStation 2 video game that started it all, Ratchet and Clank will follow a pair of unlikely pals as they do battle with an evil alien named Chairman Drek, who plans to destroy every planet in the galaxy. Taking plot cues from the video game, Ratchet is still the last Lombax (that he knows about), and grew up alone on a backwater planet with no family.

When he stumbles across Clank – and a planet-destroying weapon – they team up with Captain Quark to prevent Drek’s »

Pete’s Dragon Stands Tall In Latest Still As Director Talks Reimagining A Classic

15 April 2016 2:02 PM, PDT

Making it three for three with Entertainment Weekly scoops – following hot on the heels of new images for both Jason Bourne and Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters – the outlet has unveiled a new still for David Lowery’s (Ain’t Them Bodies Saints) live-action fairytale, Pete’s Dragon.

Yes, Pete’s reptilian ally may have been camera shy up until now, but today’s all-new shot showcases the beast – bearing the name Elliot – in all its furry glory. Emerging from a 40-year hibernation, Pete’s Dragon is a total reimagining of the Disney classic, introducing newcomer Oakes Fegley in the role of Pete, a lonesome 10-year-old that takes solace in the company of a rather unusual friend.

In breathing new life into the motion picture, the House of Mouse was conscious to retain much of the creature design glimpsed in the 1977 original. According to Lowery, there were “certain things about the »
