‘Friends’ Creator Marta Kauffman Shocked by Reunion Rumors — But Will There Ever Be A Reboot?

News of the “Friends” cast “reuniting” for an upcoming NBC special sparked an internet frenzy this week with fans believing there would be a full-blown reunion. However, their nostalgic dreams were crushed when the “reunion” was clarified to simply be a short part in a broadcast tribute to director James Burrows — and without Matthew Perry, who was never scheduled to be at the special.

“Friends” co-creator Marta Kauffman will also be present at NBC’s James Burrows special on Feb. 21, which celebrates the veteran comedy director who directed 15 episodes of the iconic ensembler, but she insists it really is not a reunion.

“It’s not a ‘Friends’ reunion. I will be there, but it is not a ‘Friends’ reunion,” Kauffman told reporters Sunday at the Television Critics Association press tour in Pasadena, Calif. where she was present to support her Netflix series “Grace and Frankie.”

Your favorite “Friends” will reunite one more time on NBC this February, network president Bob Greenblatt announced during his executive session at the Television Critics Association winter press tour in Pasadena, Calif. on Wednesday morning.

All six members of the “Friends” cast — Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry, Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer — will return for a two-hour special dedicated to the career of veteran comedy director James Burrows, which will air Sunday, Feb. 21 at 9 p.m. on NBC. Burrows directed fifteen episodes of the iconic sitcom, including “The One Where Ross and Rachel Take a Break,” which launched one of the show’s most memorable quotes.

Greenblatt admitted that the details were still being ironed out for the cast reunion. “I’m hoping all six will be in same room at same time,” he said, but cautioned, “I’m not sure we can logistically can pull it off. »
