Trivia

The Good Dinosaur had a lot of production issues. The film was in production for six years and it suffered from creative differences, story problems, Pixar multitasking between film productions, and a quality slump Pixar suffered from Cars 2 (2011) to Monsters University (2013). Director Bob Peterson, was removed from the project in the summer of 2013, just under a year before the film's original release date in May 2014. Peterson moved on to another project, while John Lasseter, Lee Unkrich, Mark Andrews, and Peter Sohn stepped in temporarily to work on various sections of the film. In November 2013, due to further delays, Pixar laid off 67 employees of its 1,200-person workforce, following the closure of its satellite studio in Canada a month before, when about 80 employees had been laid off, officially to refocus Pixar's efforts at its main headquarters. "For Pixar it was a dramatic event," said Jim Morris, the studio's general manager and executive vice president of production. "It was tough on the company. Most studios would have said, 'The movie's fine. It's not bad.' And it wasn't bad; it just wasn't great. We wanted to have a great movie." On October 21, 2014, Peter Sohn was officially named the new director. The story was then reworked, and some major changes included lowering the age of the protagonist and adding the concept of nature itself being the main antagonist. While John Lithgow still remained cast as Poppa in the film (he would later be replaced), he acknowledged the fantastic changes in the script and said that "[The film's] gonna be better than I ever imagined." Goofs

Arlo and his family are Apatosaurs. This is according to promotional materials; this name is never spoken in the film. Butch recalls an encounter with a Stegosaur, which he describes correctly. Both Apatosaurs and Stegosaurs went extinct before the point of divergence of this alternate history. (The Apatosaur goof could be mitigated by saying that Apatosaur is being used as a generic term for Sauropods, but the same cannot be said of Stegosaurs.) See more »

Anxiety Attack Dinosaur
28 November 2015 | by See all my reviews

Although this movie did have some great parts and a strong overall message, you will have to sit through 90 minutes of one anxious, overly harsh, morbid, stormy or unpleasant scene after another. There were not enough characters to enlighten us from time to time, even if just for a moment. People keep using the word scary, but I prefer to describe differently. Remember that feeling you had while watching James Franco in 127 hours or Sandra Bullock in Gravity or even Tom Hanks in cast away? That feeling where you start hoping that something good will finally happen? But it never does? Well this is your kid version of it! There were a couple of lighter scenes that were actually quite powerful but not enough for my taste. I though it was a bit too much, even for older kids, (and I'm not sensitive or easily offended at all.) Worth a watch maybe once you can see it at home and not feel bad about walking out or having your children be frightened by too many intense scenes that leave them feeling really sad and helpless.
