In the public pool where the final confrontation between the main characters and the creature occurs, we, the audience, don't see much of the creature at this point. Jay says she is too upset about its form and refuses to describe it. When the camera briefly reveals the creature, it appears to be man. Later, in the final moments of the film, we see a framed picture of Jay's deceased father. This is the same man from the pool. One could possibly infer this means her father is deceased, which could be the reason he isn't around in the film and why she didn't want to say.
