Accessing KDP Pricing Support (Beta)

You can access the service from the Rights and Pricing tab in the title set up workflow. For books that you have not yet published, you can access the service after entering your book details and uploading your book file for conversion in Step 1 “Your Book”.  For the service to determine the group of books similar to yours, you first need to enter all of your book details and upload your file.

For books you have published in the past, you can access the service from your Bookshelf.

  1. Find the book you want to modify, and in the "Book Actions" column, click "Edit Rights, Royalty and Pricing."
  2. Scroll to Step 9, "Set your Pricing and Royalty."
  3. Under KDP Pricing Support (Beta), click "View Service."

Reading the Pricing Chart

When you click "View Service," the service analyzes historical data for books similar to yours and displays a chart showing the estimated author earnings and units sold based on price changes for the group of books similar to yours.

The highest point on the "typical author earnings" line reflects the price at which the service estimates highest author earnings for the group of similar titles. The chart also shows the earnings maximizing royalty plan (35% vs. 70%). The highest point on the "typical books sold" line shows the price at which the service estimates the most number of books sold for the group of similar titles. In the example below, the pricing service estimates that highest author earnings for similar books would have occurred at $2.99 in the 70% royalty plan and highest number books sold would have occurred at $0.99.

Comparing Amazon.com List Prices

If your book is already available for sale, the service will estimate the typical impact on author earnings and books sold for similar books relative to the current list price of your book. In the example below, the model estimates that a price change from $0.99 in the 35% royalty plan to $2.99 in the 70% royalty plan would have resulted in an author earnings increase of about 55% with a 75% decrease in the number of books sold.

Exiting the KDP Pricing Support (Beta)

Before exiting KDP Pricing Support (Beta), if you choose to update or set the list price of your book to the highest author earnings price, you can click "Yes" at the bottom of the page.

KDP Pricing Support (Beta) then updates the list price on Amazon.com to the highest author earnings price. You can change this price anytime. This list price will be applied to your book only after you click "Save and Publish."

If you do not wish to set or update the list price of your book, you can click "No, set a different price" and the service takes you back to the rights and pricing page. You can also exit KDP Pricing Support (Beta) at any time by clicking "Back to Rights and Pricing" at the top of the page.

Data is not what you expected

For some books, the highest author earnings price may be higher or lower than you what you think is the best price for your book.

It may also be higher than your print book price. In such cases you should use your best judgment. As mentioned before, the data presented in the service is an estimate based on past sales for a group of books similar to yours. Each individual book in a group is different.
