9 Potential Reasons Why No One Went to See 'Fifty Shades of Grey' Last Weekend

24 February 2015 4:14 PM, PST | Entertainment Tonight | See recent Entertainment Tonight news »

Looks like Fifty Shades of Grey might be a one-pump chump.

Though the movie made a record $80-something million during its first weekend, The Hollywood Reporter reports that its box office saw a “massive” 73 percent decline in the U.S. the second weekend. (Though it’s still made over $400 globally, so really, who cares?)

To be honest, we’re surprised: We assumed fans of the book and the plus ones they dragged with them would see it the first weekend, then word would spread that it wasn’t as bad as expected and everyone else would see it the next weekend. Here are nine possible reasons that proved untrue:

Watch: Dakota Johnson argues with her mom about ‘Fifty Shades’ at Oscars

1. Everyone Who Wanted to See It Already Saw It: As evidenced by that massive haul the first weekend. Fifty Shades is the fastest-selling R-rated movie in history, but maybe anyone who had any interest in ever »

Kingsman: The Secret Service is well on its way to being one of 2015's early box office hits, already taking in more than $155 million worldwide in just over one week in release. We reported last week that director Matthew Vaughn is already formulating ideas for Kingsman 2, but today we have images from one Kingsman: The Secret Service deleted scene that sadly wasn't included in the theatrical cut. U.K. visual effects house Jellyfish Pictures has posted two intriguing photos from a scene involving Michael Caine's Arthur, that made him look 40 years younger through VFX. Here's an excerpt from the Jellyfish website.

"Jellyfish worked on the VFX for the movie including a complex sequence involving Michael Caine looking 40 years younger."

While no specific details were given about the scene, Kingsman: The Secret Service comic book creator Mark Millar confirmed that the scene was set in 1975, and that it was cut because director Matthew Vaughn thought, »

The report comes from British tabloid The Sun (via io9) which says the production will overlap with the last bits of filming on the James Bond film "Spectre" which also is being filmed at Pinewood Studios and wraps late March/early April.

Gary Whitta wrote the first draft of the film's script with Chris Weitz doing a recent polish. However, there's no story details as yet regarding the movie beyond rumors of it involving Han Solo and Boba Fett and potentially being a 'heist thriller' following a group of space pirates.

22 February 2015 1:55 PM, PST | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

But who would play the younger version of the rogue space smuggler? According to recent reports, it could be Kingsman: The Secret Service star Taron Egerton. Given that this story comes to us from The Sun, one might be wise to hesitate before immediately calling this story fact - but their sources have evidently told them that Taron Egerton is being considered as a possible candidate to play a young Han Solo in an upcoming Star Wars spin-off movie. According to the report, the young Han Solo movie will go into production after Gareth Edwards’ 2016 movie (which may or may not be about a group of bounty hunters stealing the plans to the Death Star) and will explore “how Harrison Ford’s iconic character got the Millennium Falcon and as well as showing how he fell out with Jabba the Hutt.”

If there’s any truth to this report – and given the source, that’s a pretty huge if – then it would seem that the long-rumoured Han Solo »

2015 is Taron Egerton’s year. After a huge starring role in Kingsman: The Secret Service, which has created a ton of buzz for the young actor, his star is starting to rise considerably and if recent rumors are to believed, he might be up for what could be the biggest role of his career.

According to UK tabloid The Sun, the actor is being eyed to play young Han Solo in one of the standalone Star Wars films. Now, as we have already learnt, Gareth Edwards will be directing the first standalone entry and that will be hitting theatres in December 2016. In 2017 though, we’ll be getting the second one, which we believe Josh Trank is handling. It’s this film that Egerton would star in, as the plot will, apparently, focus on “how Harrison Ford’s iconic character got the Millennium Falcon as well as show how he fell out with Jabba the Hutt. »
