Snyder Talks "Justice" Titles, Batman Villains

Following a press conference on Friday, Zack Snyder's "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" has begun premiering around the world with the Mexico and U.S. premieres having taken place. Snyder and actors Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill and Gal Gadot have all been on hand to talk about the film and show up on the red carpet for appearances and interviews.

Speaking with Collider on Friday, Snyder revealed that at one time appearances by Batman villains The Joker and The Riddler in the film were considered but ultimately scrapped. Snyder didn't go into the nature of how they would have been worked into the story though:

"We talked about the possibility of putting them in. [Screenwriter] Chris Terrio and I talked about it a lot and felt that their mythological presence is felt in the movie, and that's cool, but I didn't want to get my eye too far off »

Taron Egerton Denies Han Solo Rumors

Last week came word that Phil Lord and Chris Miller's "Star Wars" anthology movie about Han Solo, currently targeting a May 2018 release, had narrowed its shortlist of candidates down to around three names - "Kingsman" star Taron Egerton, "Hail Caesar" scene-stealer Alden Ehrenreich, and "Transformers" actor Jack Reynor.

With filming to begin later this year, a name is expected to be announced soon and the best bet seemed to be Egerton. Appearing on The Jonathan Ross Show on Saturday though, the actor was asked directly about this possibility and indicated that he hasn't been contacted by either Disney or Lucasfilm about the part:

"I've heard this rumor, yes. I mean, I've seen the stuff on the Internet, and I think any lad of my age would kill to play a part like that. It's very, very flattering. I have no idea if there's any truth in it, but I mean, »

Roven Talks Keeping "Suicide Squad" PG-13

In the wake of the success of "Deadpool," people have been discussing what other superhero films in the works could make the most of an R-rating considering so many have been reluctant to do so.

The most obvious example that came up was David Ayer's "Suicide Squad," the film in which several villains of the DC universe team-up. The material seems tailor made for an R-rating, but the film was already shot a while back and is aiming for a PG-13.

Speaking with Collider on Friday, producer Charles Roven says that despite the success of "Deadpool" the studio still intends to make their DC Cinematic Universe films PG-13:

"At the moment, my understanding is we are still releasing Suicide Squad as a PG-13, so there hasn't been to my mind a serious conversation about doing anything other than that. I understand why Deadpool was released as an R-rated film. »

"Zootopia" Beats "Allegiant" At Box-Office

Disney Animation's "Zootopia" is kicking ass all over the shop, dominating a third straight weekend at the worldwide box office with a global total at a whopping $592 million with the UK and Japan still to go.

Domestically it scored a further $38 million and easily took first place this weekend, its total crossing the $200 million mark, while reviews are ridiculously good - the film currently holding an almost unprecedented 99% (8.1/10) on Rotten Tomatoes with over 150 reviews counted.

In second was "The Divergent Series: Allegiant," the third film in Summit's young-adult series which pulled in around $29 million - a big drop from the low-$50 million openings of the previous two films. In third was the faith-based "Miracles from Heaven" which scored $15 million since Friday and $18.6 million since it opened on Wednesday. Budgeted at just $13 million and scoring an A+ CinemaScore, it'll be a small but profitable little film for Sony.

"10 Cloverfield Lane" came in fourth with $12.5 million, »

Laura Dern's "Star Wars" Role Revealed?

When the start of production on Rian Johnson's "Star Wars: Episode VIII" was announced, three new names were also revealed to be joining the cast of returning regulars from 'The Force Awakens'.

One was Benicio Del Toro, whom we know is playing a character like Kylo Ren in that he's torn between both sides of the force. Another was Kelly Marie Tran who will play a character joining John Boyega's Finn on his solo adventure in the new outing. The third was "Jurassic Park" and "Blue Velvet" actress Laura Dern, but all details of her role have been kept secret.

Now, Latino Review claims to have scored a bit information about the part - indicating that the actress will play a Resistance soldier who butts heads with Oscar Isaac's Poe Dameron.

Potential Major Spoilers Ahead

Renner Open To A Netflix "Hawkeye" Series

One day we may eventually get a standalone "Black Widow" or Ruffalo-led "Hulk" film, but one of the original Avengers who won't be getting his own movie is Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye.

The actor himself has indicated he's not pushing for his own film in the Marvel cinematic universe, but speaking at the Silicon Valley Comic Con (via ComicBook.com) this weekend, Renner seemed more open to the idea of a "Daredevil"-esque Hawkeye Netflix series:

"I think that's actually a really great model, if there's ever a way to explore the character, maybe it's in that world. These are things that are really not in my control, but I'd be open to it. I've really enjoyed getting to explore the character more recently. The Netflix model is where all the character drama goes to now, you're doing a superhero movie or a Netflix or HBO kind of model. So I'd be open to it. »

Snyder Talks Further "300" Sequels

19 March 2016 1:57 PM, PDT

When he's not preoccupied with the future of the DC Cinematic Universe, filmmaker Zack Snyder has been talking briefly about other projects he might pursue once he has the time - projects which have raised eyebrows. Earlier this week came word of his desire to do a film adaptation of Ayn Rand's "The Fountainhead," and a few weeks back he suggested he wanted to do a George Washington biopic in the style of "300".

Indeed it seems the later might ended up being a direct part of "300", Snyder revealing in a new interview with Collider this weekend that beyond the sequel "300: Rise of an Empire," there's talk of essentially turning the "300" name into a franchise brand that could be slapped onto tales of any historical battle in which a small group takes on a mighty army. When asked if there would be a third "300" film, Snyder said:

"There may be. »

"Maze" Helmer On Dylan O'Brien's Health

19 March 2016 1:49 PM, PDT

Yesterday morning came word that actor Dylan O'Brien, the young "Teen Wolf" star who had made a name for himself as the lead in "The Maze Runner" films, was hit by a car on the set of the currently in production third and final film in that series.

Rushed to hospital, the actors injuries were only described as "severe" and it is serious enough that the production has been at least postponed. Today, the film's director Wes Ball has spoken up about the on-set accident in a letter he tweeted on Saturday explaining where things stand:

"Well, it's been a whirlwind of emotions these past few days. I've been overwhelmed with feelings of anger and sadness and guilt. But, ultimately I find myself left with a deep love and respect for Dylan. He is one tough cookie.

I'm sorry for the grief this accident has caused his friends and family »

Hannibal Producer Blames Piracy For Axing

19 March 2016 1:48 PM, PDT

Bryan Fuller's beautiful, operatic, insane, disturbing and wonderful "Hannibal" left us after three seasons and with an ending that will be talked about for many years to come.

The reasons for the cancellation are fairly clear - ratings. It was a critically lauded and often experimental series that should have been on cable but was on NBC. The fanbase was very loyal but also small, and by the time of the third season the ratings were just too low for even NBC to ignore.

The hope was a streaming service would pick it up which it didn't, and now those involved have moved onto other things. This week, the show's executive producer Martha De Laurentiis penned an op-ed in The Hill about its cancellation and put the blame on one thing - piracy. Unlike shows like "The Walking Dead" or "Game of Thrones" which have massive Niesen viewing figures, »

New Details On Tellltale Games' "Batman"

19 March 2016 1:46 PM, PDT

Telltale Games, "The Walking Dead" and "The Wolf Among Us" episodic game creators, have revealed new details about their upcoming game series set in the Batman universe.

Making the announcement yesterday at SXSW in Austin, the team confirmed that the series premieres this Summer and explores "what the consequences are of the player's actions when decisions made as Bruce have a critical impact on his nightly crusade as Batman, and vice versa".

Key scenes will allow the player to approach a scene as either Bruce or Batman, the results of that will have consequences for both sides of the character and those others around him - decisions affecting those who have a deeply personal relationship with Bruce in his private life and pushing them down different paths.

Same goes for Gotham City itself, players actions determining whom you deal with during the day and the criminals you take on at night. »

Mann Still Planning Gangster Feature

19 March 2016 1:45 PM, PDT

The other day came word that filmmaker Michael Mann had started a new venture, Michael Mann Books, which would manage literary works which would then be sold on to publishers, and could also be adapted into potential films and TV series which Mann would likely produce and maybe even direct.

The first is a prequel novel to "Heat" which Mann himself is already working on, but there's no word at all (despite some breathless news pieces earlier this week) that an adaptation of it is in development. Today, Deadline has news of the second book from the label, one which has much more of a chance of hitting the screen.

"The Power of the Dog" author Don Winslow is penning the novel which is about Chicago crime boss Tony Accardo and his successor Sam Giancana - a crime story Mann has been keen to do for years. Accardo was part of the infamous St. »

"Red Dead Redemption" Gets A Sequel?

19 March 2016 1:43 PM, PDT

In lists of the great games of last generation that have yet to be remastered, the frequent top title cited is that of "Red Dead Redemption". "Grand Theft Auto" creators Rockstar Games' console exclusive title can only be played these days with either a PS3 or a Xbox 360 - there is no PC version and no remastered version for the new consoles despite many begging for it.

While there's still no word on bringing that classic title into the world of high-definition beyond an Xbox One backwards compatible version later in the year, Moviepilot & Fraghero (via Cb) have posted news from an apparent leaked e-mail which suggests a sequel game entitled "Red Dead Redemption 2: Legends of the West" is in the works for release in 2017.

The report claims the new 'Red' will sport a bigger world than even "Grand Theft Auto V," and will borrow from the original "Red »

Teller Talks "Fantastic" Failure, Han Solo Audition

19 March 2016 8:27 AM, PDT

There's little doubt that in the recent history of superhero movies, one of the most despised is Josh Trank's "Fantastic Four". From a very troubled production through a complete evisceration by critics and terrible box-office, the stink on the film was high. The main actors involved, such as Miles Teller and Toby Kebbell, have been spared its troubles and gone onto other projects which look to be receiving a better response.

On a recent edition of the happysadconfused podcast, Teller spoke about "Fantastic Four" and the production's troubles from a constantly reworked script to the backlash against the film:

"I think it was Clooney who said you can make a bad movie out of a good script, you can't make a good movie out of a bad script, and that's very true. If they're telling you maybe your part's not as big and they say, 'Oh you're gonna be »

Who Is Joining "Legends of Tomorrow" S2?

19 March 2016 8:12 AM, PDT

The renewal of The CW's "DC's Legends of Tomorrow" for a second season seems to have seen a change in plan for the series. A while back it was suggested by one of the producers that due to the nature of the show, it could be more an anthology style series with much of the key cast being swapped out with other iconic DC Comics characters.

Now though, TV Line says that isn't true and much of the original cast will still be in place for the second season and the producer talking about major changes to the cast was actually referring to the character's personalities and experience instead:

"Our team for Season 2, if not in the [physical] makeup of the team, will be changed in the way that [the characters] will be different [people] - meaning, Rip, Leonard, Sara et al will have been changed as people by their adventures during Season 1. Regardless »
