Helen Mirren and Aaron Paul Take Down Terrorists in First Trailer For ‘Eye in the Sky’

21 hours ago | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

After this year’s Good Kill seemed to come and arrive without much attention, another war drama surrounding drones will try to capture audiences this spring. Eye in the Sky, which premiered at Toronto International Film Festival this fall, was picked up by Bleecker Street, and now we have the first trailer.

Starring Helen Mirren, Aaron Paul, Alan Rickman, and Barkhad Abdi, it comes from director Gavin Hood, who gave us the disappointing Ender’s Game and ultra-disappointing X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but is thankfully returning to smaller-scale drama here. The story centers on Paul’s character getting into a difficult situation when preparing for a drone strike. Check out the first trailer below.

Eye In The Sky stars Helen Mirren as Colonel Katherine Powell, a UK-based military officer in command of a top secret drone operation to capture terrorists in Kenya. Through remote surveillance and on-the-ground intel, Powell discovers the »

James McAvoy On Why There’s No Competition Between Marvel And Fox’s Superhero Franchises

1 December 2015 3:57 PM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Well, this is bound to be a little controversial.

As you can see from the video above, X-Men: Apocalypse star James McAvoy has made it clear that there’s no real rivalry between Marvel Studios and 20th Century Fox’s superhero franchises. While his comments are clearly being made in jest, some fans will no doubt take umbrage with his assessment of how the two studios compare.

X-Men and X2: X-Men United are considered among the best comic book adaptations of all-time, but Fox has certainly made plenty of missteps, including X-Men: The Last Stand and X-Men Origins: Wolverine (and let’s not even get into the way the studio has botched the Fantastic Four movies). Marvel, meanwhile, have made some mistakes too, of course, but their record speaks for itself.

Simon Kinberg Provides Updates On New Mutants And The Wolverine 3

30 November 2015 4:23 PM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

With X-Men: Apocalypse set to wrap up that particular trilogy and Hugh Jackman looking set to bid farewell to Wolverine, Fox are looking for different ways to keep the franchise going. That obviously includes solo outings for characters like Deadpool and Gambit, but looking ahead a little further than that, Josh Boone’s New Mutants is also on the way.

We have no idea about the approach being taken for that release, but producer Simon Kinberg did offer an update on where things currently stand with it in a recent interview:

“I don’t know what the production plan is. Like with all of these things, we have to get the script right. That’s the most important part of it, and they’re just working on the first draft now, but the hope is that we’ll shoot it soon. And Josh has been game with this and gave »

Gambit: 4 Reasons It Could Be Awesome (And 4 Why It Could Suck)

27 November 2015 1:31 PM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

20th Century Fox

After a fairly turbulent few months in which its very production was put in doubt several times, it looks like 20th Century Fox is finally gearing up to begin work on their long-mooted solo film for the X-Man Gambit with star Channing Tatum and director Doug Liman.

The card throwing cajun first cropped up onscreen in the best-forgotten X-Men Origins: Wolverine, where he was played pretty decently by True Detective star Taylor Kitsch. Now though, Fox is looking to more fully exploit its mutant universe with a series of spin-offs and solo movies, with Gambit due to land in 2016 after both Deadpool and X-Men: Apocalypse have taken a run at challenging the McU’s box office domination.

Banking on a fan favourite character like Gambit is a bit of a risk for the higher-ups at Fox, particularly seeing as how this version won’t be seen as »

10 X-Men Characters We Want To See In Fox’s Gambit

20th Century Fox

Production is finally about to get underway on Channing Tatum’s Gambit movie, with Edge Of Tomorrow and Bourne Identity’s Doug Liman settling into the warm spot of Rupert Wyatt’s vacant director’s chair. We already know that Gambit will be acting independently of the main X-Men series, and that rather than an epic fight between friends, rivals and external forces, it will be a heist movie.

If there’s one thing the X-Men movies have never been shy about, it’s cramming in the mutants as either cameos or anthropomorphic MacGuffins. It’s safe to assume then that Gambit will be no different, bringing in some fan pleasing cameos and possibly even rehabilitating some of the characters that were so poorly served by X-Men: The Last Stand and X-Men Origins: Wolverine now that the events of those two films have been completely expunged from »

New 'Wonder Woman' logo, updated cast list, and first official photo

23 November 2015 4:46 PM, PST | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

While speculation over the cast of "Wonder Woman" has been circulating the internet for months, Warner Bros. set the record straight this weekend by announcing the official cast for the upcoming standalone film, aptly titled "Wonder Woman". According the press release, (in addition to previously confirmed lead actress Gal Gadot and director Patty Jenkins), Chris Pine has been officially confirmed to be playing Captain Steve Trevor. A photo of him from the set of "Wonder Woman" was released a few weeks ago via Instagram, but this is the first time Warner Bros. has officially confirmed his role as Steve Trevor. While Nicole Kidman was previously in negotiations to play an Amazonian warrior in "Wonder Woman", it would appear that Robin Wright ("House of Cards") has signed on for the role in Kidman's place. This could mean Wright will be channeling some of Claire Underwood's fierceness by playing Diana's mother, »

Wonder Woman will shoot in the UK, France and Italy, and the main cast has now been revealed.

Over the weekend, we got the first official shot from Warner Bros' Wonder Woman movie, that Gal Gadot is starring in, and Patty Jenkins is directing. Furthermore, we've now got details of the film's full cast.

Joining her in the cast?

Star Trek's Chris Pine is Captain Steve Trevor. Robin Wright (House Of Cards), Danny Huston (X-Men Origins: Wolverine), David Thewlis (Naked), Ewen Bremner (Trainspotting), Said Taghmaoui (American Hustle), Elena Anaya (The Skin I Live In) and the brilliant Lucy Davis (Shaun Of The Dead) have all been confirmed.

Missing from that list is Nicole Kidman, »

First Official Wonder Woman Still; Robin Wright, Danny Huston And More Join Cast

Warner Bros. has announced the commencement of production on director Patty Jenkins’ solo Wonder Woman movie with a press release detailing the new cast additions, as well as an image that gives us our first official look at Gal Gadot (in this movie, anyway) as Princess Diana herself.

The additional cast members include Robin WrightDanny Huston and David Thewlis – though the characters they’ll be playing are being kept under wraps for now. Nicole Kidman was said to be in talks to play another Amazonian warrior believed to be Diana’s mother, Hippolyta, but there’s no mention of her here. Perhaps that’s being saved for a separate announcement, or talks simply fell through and Robin Wright is now playing that role?

Regardless, you can check out the full press release, along with the first official Wonder Woman still, below:

From Ghostbusters 3 to a Firefly reunion, videogames are doing what movies can't...

Tie-in video games are nothing new in the moviemaking or televisual world. Through these spin-off products, we can play out adventures featuring our favourite characters without having to leave the house.

Most of the time, though, said characters don’t sound quite right. For financial reasons, you’ll often see a different voice cast step in to replace the overly expensive stars from the original film or TV version. Admittedly, these stand-ins do a very good job from time to time. But you can always tell the difference.

Sometimes, though, providing a rare treat for fans, actors can be convinced – by money, passion or a good script - to reprise their iconic film or TV characters once more for a video game adventure. Here are 32 games that featured instances of this incredibly fun phenomenon… »

Deadpool Wants To Know If You’ve Been Naughty Or Nice In This New Poster

20th Century Fox

With February just around the corner, the 20th Century Fox marketing machine is gearing up for a Deadpool onslaught. As one of Marvel’s lesser-known properties (to a wider audience, at least) they’re going to need to be really savvy with the material they choose to promote, and how they do it. Mainstream audiences – if they’re not too superhero-fatigued, at least – are really going to need to see more of Deadpool’s Usp of hilarity and tendency to break the fourth wall to make him stand out from the crowd.

IGN received a new cinema standee this morning that’ll soon be peddled around the country, in anticipation of a new trailer in December, and they appear to have succeeded on both the aforementioned counts. Check it out below – can’t wait to find one of these for myself so I can finally sit on »

X-Men Origins: Wolverine Actor Scott Adkins Joins Doctor Strange Cast

Production is now underway on Scott Derrickson’s Doctor Strange, and yet another actor has now been added to the second of Marvel’s Phase 3 movies. That’s martial artist Scott Adkins, and while his role is being kept a secret, The Wrap reveals that he’ll “have several major action scenes featuring hand-to-hand combat.”

Adkins played the transformed version of “Deadpool” in X-Men Origins: Wolverine and took part in an impressive battle sequence which saw him pitted against Wolverine and Sabretooth. He’s also made an impact in movies like The Bourne Ultimatum, The Expendables 2, and Zero Dark Thirty. He’ll next be seen alongside Sacha Baron Cohen in The Brothers Grimsby.
