Storyline

Young writer Richard Collier is met on the opening night of his first play by an old lady who begs him to "Come back to me". Mystified, he tries to find out about her, and learns that she is a famous stage actress from the early 1900s, Elise McKenna. Becoming more and more obsessed with her, he manages, by self hypnosis, to travel back in time where he meets her. They fall in love, a matching that is not appreciated by her manager. Can their love outlast the immense problems caused by their "time" difference? And can Richard remain in a time that is not his? Written by &view=simple&sort=alpha">Rhino <rhino@blueyonder.co.uk>

Trivia

About a decade after the film first came out, a major global fan club was created by Bill Shepard in 1990. Called INSITE, the acronym stands for the "International Network of Somewhere In Time Enthusiasts". It's mission statement is to "Honor the film, and those responsible for its creation, to Inform members about all aspects of it, to enhance their appreciation of it, as well as to influence public and media perception of the film, to assure its recognition as the classic we know it to be." Goofs

Although Rachmaninov's work "Rhapsody on a Theme by Paganini" did not exist in 1912, it did exist when Richard Collier was alive in 1980. When Elise and Richard are rowing together on the lake and he is humming it, Elise mentions that, while familiar with Rachmaninov, she is not familiar with this work. Having gone back in time to 1912, Richard would be familiar with the work and Elise would not which could lend itself to Richard's comment to Elise, "I'll introduce you to it sometime," perhaps meaning that once their relationship is further along, she would accept that he would know of a piece of work that had yet to be composed. [various snippets in crowd chatter]
Richard Collier: I got some news. There was an agent in the house tonight, and he said he thinks this play might be good enough for Broadway.
[cheers from crowd]
Richard Collier: Fingers crossed, who knows? Come on, let's all have some cake.

My all-time favorite movie.
3 November 2004 | by (Jax, Fla) – See all my reviews

There are those few movies that make you sit back and just be amazed at the artistic excellence you've just seen. Citizen Kane, Casablanca, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Star Wars, The Godfather, Ben Hur, and The Lord of the Rings trilogy are a few of these. Somewhere In Time is not a blockbuster actioner, but is perhaps the finest fantasy love story ever made.

The cast is perfect. Christopher Reeve is extremely believable. Jane Seymour is gorgeous as the young actress, as is Teresa Wright as her older self. Christopher Plummer is great as Elise McKenna's manager, and Bill Erwin affords himself fine as Arthur. The setting, music, story, and acting are all top notch! We are slowly drawn (and it's just great to take one's time to get involved) into this mysterious romance as the paradox pair of the watch and the time travel gets our hero to "come back to me."

Simply Superb! If you are one of the very few who has not seen this movie, please get it and watch it one time. I've seen it at least 10 times and enjoy it as much each time.
