EXCLUSIVE: As Charlize Theron prepares to open The Huntsman: Winter’s War and the Cannes-bound Sean Penn-directed The Last Face, she is in the early stages to re-team with director Jason Reitman and screenwriter Diablo Cody.
They made Young Adult in 2011, and now they are early stage talks to team again in Cody’s latest script that Reitman will direct, which doesn’t have a title. All I know is it’s about motherhood. Cody and Reitman broke out together in Juno, and Theron crushed it in Mad Max: Fury Road.
They’re all repped by WME.

Young Adult is painfully underrated. This is great news.
My favorite Jason Reitman movie.
I jumped off my chair. You are so right. The movie is incredible and she gave one of the most complicated and layered performances that I ever seen. Jason said that if Charlize did not want to do the movie he wouldn’t direct it” What a great complimment! I’m really happy.
I second that. Young Adult is genius. Hope this is great as well!
Excellent news! They make a great team!
JUNO was painfully overrated. This is bad news.
Honest to blog.
Juno was a terrific film with great performances by Page and Simmons and and a smart, delightful script by Cody.
Young Adult was painfully dull with a disastrously inept third act. Why Charlize would want a second helping is beyond me.
Young Adult is one of my favorite films of the last few years. As another commentator noted, it’s painfully underrated. Charlize was incredibly great as Mavis and the whole film just worked in ways that very few black comedies succeed. It reminded me of To Die For – which is one of Nicole Kidman’s great performances. I’m excited for this.
I feel as if Reitman-Cody-Kidman is a dream team that needs to happen. Theron is great, but 99% of the roles she plays are like Mavis Grey. I want a different actress (or a different role for Theron).
Young Adult is the last time I enjoyed any of them.
Young Adult is a gem of a movie….great news to hear the trio are returning.
