Today saw the return of the Star Wars Fan Fun Day to Burnley, Lancashire. The annual event takes place each year at Turf Moor, home to Burnley F.C., and this years event appeared to be the largest yet! Guests included such Star Wars luminaries such as Dave Prowse (Darth Vader), Jeremy Bulloch (Boba Fett), and Paul Blake (Greedo); along with the charity costume organisations Rebel Legion and the 99th Imperial UK Garrison who turned out again in force for photo opportunites and fan interaction.

As I said in last years write up, the Star Wars Fan Fun Day is a non-profit event that takes place every year, and each year the event grows in size. This year the event had grown so much we had to join a queue that was going out the door when we arrived at 11am. In fact when we got to the sign in table, we were told that over 400 people had already entered and it had only been open for 30 minutes! A sign that the event may be growing too big for the small venue in which it takes place.

As with previous years, the attendees ranged in age and their were plenty of families alongside the Star Wars geeks, and there was plenty of things for everyone to do – playing video games, getting your face painted, playing lazer-tag, buying toys and merchandise at the dealers tables, photographs with cosplayers and, of course, queuing for autographs with the guests in attendance – with the more popular guests, Prowse and Bulloch in particular, signing at what seemed like a rate of knots!

Again the atmosphere at the event was electric, with everyone in high spirits, a true family affair… My only gripe, and that of some of the other attendees, was that the venue has become too small for the huge number of people that took part – last year there was some room for movement around the floor, however this time round people were fighting for space and many a photo opportunity turned into a veritable fight, with people barging and shoving to get the best shot! Overall, despite the mionr gripe, Star Wars Fan Fun Day was another great event, it will be interesting to see if next years event is any bigger (or any busier).
