The 'DL' range is distinct from the established Coolpix and 1-series lineups, and consists of three cameras built around the same 20MP 1"-type sensor. Nikon has arrived a little late to the 1" sensor compact party but it's turned up mob-handed. It's announced three DL models: two fast-lens compact cameras with a choice of wide or standard zoom range, and a 21x superzoom model. Nikon is entering the 1"-type premium compact market in a big way, introducing three new models that cover pretty much every focal length. The guts of all three 'DL' models are the same, in that they have 20.8MP BSI CMOS sensors, Hybrid AF with 20 fps burst shooting with continuous AF, and 4K video support. The DL18-50 has an 18-50mm equiv. F1.8-2.8 lens and a tilting touchscreen display, while the DL24-85 has a 24-85mm equiv. F1.8-2.8 lens and no built-in flash. The DL24-500 is the long zoom model, with a 24-500mm equiv. F2.8-5.6 lens, fully articulating display and built-in EVF. More details

Nikon has announced three new superzoom cameras. The Coolpix A900 is the compact one of the bunch, offering a 20MP BSI CMOS sensor, 24-840mm equiv. lens, tilting LCD and 4K capture. The Coolpix B500 is an inexpensive bridge camera with a 22.5-900mm lens, 16MP sensor and tilting display. It uses AA batteries - a rarity these days - but cannot capture 4K. Its big brother, the B900 does, and it also comes with a 20MP sensor, 24-1440mm lens, electronic viewfinder and fully articulating LCD. Read more

Nikon shooters have waited a long time for a D300S replacement, and it appears that they're going to have to keep waiting a little longer. Nikon Japan has released a statement pushing the D500's initial March release to late April 2016. Read more

The Nikon KeyMission 360 action camera was unveiled at an event in early January, and while Nikon offered some details about the model, it did not reveal the price. Now, nearly a month later, the camera has surfaced on German retailer Cyberport's website with a list price of €499 and a features list. Read more

Last week, Nikon Singapore chose an image submitted by photographer Chay Yu Wei as the winner of a 'casual photo contest.' Critics quickly pointed out that the airplane featured in the image had been digitally inserted, given away by the highly visible white square around the plane's silhouette. Nikon and Yu Wei have both issued apologies over the submission. Read more

Nikon has released details of price increases it will implement in the Japanese market from the beginning of March this year. The changes will affect a total of 73 of its DX and FX lenses, as well as three teleconverters. In addition, 21 lenses for the Nikon 1 system will be included, the FT1 mount adapter and six Speedlite flash units along with the systems associated wireless remotes. Read more

Today at CES Nikon announced two new DSLR cameras: the pro-oriented D5 and the enthusiast-oriented D500. Just after the press conference we slipped away from the CES crowds with Nikon’s DSLR product manager, Mark Soares, to get his take on the new bodies, a rundown of some major features, and some insight into their target audience. Read more

Nikon has formally announced its D5 professional DSLR, a 21MP full frame capable of shooting at up to 12fps with AF and 14fps without. The camera features an all-new autofocus module with 153 points, 99 of which are cross-type, sensitive to both horizontal and vertical detail. It's also Nikon's first DSLR to be capable of 4K video capture and its first high-end camera to include a touchscreen.

Nikon's newly announced SB-5000 Speedlight is the company's first foray into the radio-controlled flash market. It can operate in radio-control mode when paired with the WR-R10 Wireless Remote Adapter Set, or in a more conventional optically controlled mode with the SU-800 or any commander-capable flash unit. In addition, the new design offers an improved cooling system while maintaining the tilt-and-rotate capability of other high-end Speedlights. Read more

Nikon has announced a shockproof and waterproof spherical 360-degree action camera. Called KeyMission 360, it promises to 'put 360 virtual reality in the hands of any enthusiast' and offers 4K UHD recording. Shockproof to 2m / 6.6 ft and waterproof to 30m / 100 ft, the camera includes electronic VR stabilization and houses an image sensor and lens on opposite sides of the device to create immersive stills and video. Read more

Nikon has announced the much-anticipated followup to its D300S, the 21MP D500 which the company calls its 'best enthusiast DX offering.' It features the same 153-point AF system and EXPEED 5 processor. It can shoot continuously at 10 fps with a 200 shot buffer for Raw images. It can also capture 4K/UHD video and also features 'SnapBridge', a constant connection to a smartphone using Bluetooth, similar to what Samsung did with its NX1. The D500 will be available from March at a cost of around $2000. Read more

Nikon is bringing stepping motors to its DSLR lens lineup for the first time with a pair of 'AF-P' lenses, both of which are collapsable 18-55mm zooms (one with vibration reduction, the other without). Nikon says that its stepping motor lenses are both faster and quieter than their predecessors, making them quite appealing for video recording. These lenses have two aspherical elements as well as a Super Integrated Coating, with the VR model reducing shake by 4 stops. Read more

Nikon has released firmware updates for its D750 and D4S DSLRs, providing both with a new external recording control option for use with external recorders using Atomos Open Protocol. At the end of a list of bug fixes, Nikon also mentions that the D750's firmware version 1.10 introduces 'optimal vibration reduction' with vibration reduction lenses. Read more

In a brief press release, Nikon announced the development of its D5 digital SLR, which will be the company's next flagship camera. There aren't any real details in the release, other than the expected promise of better performance and image quality. A new SB-5000 Speedlight and WT-6 Wireless Transmitter are also on the roadmap. Read more

Nikon has released updated firmware for its D810 DSLR, taking the software from version C 1.02 to C 1.10. The new firmware brings with it several changes, the majority of which are bug fixes. In addition to correcting issues, v1.10 adds an external recording control option for using the camera to start and stop third-party recorders connected over HDMI. Read more

Earlier this year Nikon expanded a series of F1.8 primes with the 24mm F1.8G ED, sitting alongside 20mm and 35mm models. Compact and lightweight, it hits a $750 price point that's relatively reasonable, considering the F1.4 version retails for over $2000. Nikon's flagship APS-C DSLR is a real workhorse. Offering a 24.2MP CMOS sensor, the D7200 provides a 51-point AF system sensitive to -3EV, an increased buffer depth with 6 fps continuous shooting and 1080 HD video at 60p. In a press release on its Japanese website, Nikon has announced that its new AF-S Nikkor 24-70mm F2.8E ED VR lens - announced earlier this month - is being delayed from its original shipping date of 27th August to October. No specific reason for the delay has been given, only that it is necessary to 'satisfy the customer'. Click through for more information

Nikon has released firmware updates for a pair of its Coolpix compact cameras. Firmware v1.2 for the Coolpix P900 superzoom resolves issues that can occur when using a wireless remote, while the v1.1 update for the S6700 fixes a rare problem where the camera locks up when powered on. Read more

Nikon has released three new full-frame lenses, including a prime and both standard zoom and super telephoto zooms. The one that will likely garner the most attention is the replacement for the venerable 24-70mm F2.8. The latest version adds Vibration Reduction, electromagnetic aperture control, a new optical construction and more. Also introduced is a 24mm F1.8 prime and a 200-500mm F5.6 super telephoto. Nikon's AF-S DX Nikkor 16-80mm F2.8-4E ED VR is intended as a high-quality everyday lens with the company's APS-C format DSLRs. Offering an equivalent focal length range of 24-120mm, the 16-80mm features optical VR stabilization and an electronic aperture diaphragm. Nikon's D810A is an astrophotography-oriented version of the D810. It's the first full-frame camera dedicated to astrophotography, and is better able to capture the hydrogen alpha spectral line. It also expands long exposure options, and has garnered speculation as to improvements in low light capabilities. Take a look at its high ISO and color performance in our studio scene. Read more

Nikon has issued a service advisory regarding the D750, specifically targeting units made in October and November 2014. An issue with the shutter in these units could result in shading in a portion of images taken with the camera. Nikon will examine and replace the shutter on affected models free of charge to correct the problem. Read more

Nikon has introduced the AF-S DX Nikkor 16-80mm F2.8-4E ED VR, designed to provide an enthusiast photographer with a wide range of options. Covering a 24-120mm equivalent range on Nikon's APS-C bodies, it offers Nano Crystal Coating for the first time in a DX lens. Read more

Nikon has announced a pair of super telephoto FX prime lenses: the AF-S Nikkor 500mm F4E FL ED VR and 600mm F4E FL ED VR. Both are significantly lighter than the versions that preceded them and each use an electromagnetic diaphragm for more consistent exposure control during burst shooting. Read more

With a 2000mm equivalent zoom range, the Nikon Coolpix P900 leads the current ultrazoom class in terms of reach. While there's no question that the camera has an impressive zoom range, a nature photographer based in Germany has made it ever-so-obvious just how powerful this little ultrazoom is. His YouTube video of the moon shows that at 83x optical zoom the magnification is so powerful, the rotation of the Earth is easily seen as the subject drifts through the frame. Read more
