You are forgetting one thing - they abandoned 4/3 because after 9 years, it was still unsuccessful and still losing a lot of money.

M4/3 is successful. They are making money in the camera division for the first time in years. There is no reason to abandon a successful business.

Don't make them sound like Sony, changing formats every season like fashion. That is not Olympus' history.

R&D companies have always patented a lot of inventions they never use, for multiple reasons. Potential licensing, saving for later marketing options, scientific egos, etc. We just never had the Internet and rumor sites to be aware of it.

Perhaps they see an opportunity now with small FF cameras and smaller FF lenses. That might fit in with their traditions. But I wouldn't leap to that conclusion because people are rumor mongering over a few patent filings.

Olympus dumped OM (FF) mount , dumped the 43 lens line, that is more than Sony have done....
