Fees and finance

Fees and finance

Our course fees reflect the real cost of providing a high quality student experience

Fair fees with no hidden costs

We want to be open and transparent with you about all aspects of your student life, so our course fees reflect the real cost of providing a high quality student experience. We've taken the changes to tuition fees seriously and think it's important for you to have the facts before deciding whether university is the right choice for you.

Undergraduate funding (2016/17)

The majority of undergraduate funding comes from the Student Loans Company and is assessed by your funding authority:

Eligible Undergraduate students can apply for a Tuition Fee Loan of up to £9,000 to cover the full cost of their annual tuition fees.

A Maintenance Loan (for living costs) of up to £8,200 is also available.  This can be used to pay for general living costs, accommodation, travel and other course related costs.

This simple online calculator will give you an accurate idea of what level of student funding you will be eligible for.

Repaying loans

You won't start repaying your student loans for fees and living costs until you've finished studying and you're earning over £21,000 a year.

University bursary

The University of Derby Bursary provides targeted financial assistance with the costs of higher education to those who are eligible*. The Bursary is available to new undergraduate students entering higher education for the first time from September 2015 onwards**.

Eligible students will receive up to £1,000 per academic year (£900 as a cash award plus a £100 study resource card for Blackwell’s Bookshop).

Bursaries are assessed on household income and are paid direct to you (in instalments).

Buxton and Leek College bursary

Buxton and Leek College students choosing to continue their studies by moving into higher education at the University of Derby will receive a £1,000 financial boost.

To be eligible students must have achieved a qualification from Buxton and Leek College in the last three years and be progressing to full-time undergraduate study (in academic year 2015/16) at the University of Derby in Buxton or Derby.

Eligible students will receive £1,000 (£900 as a cash award plus a £100 study resource card for Blackwell’s Bookshop).

Part-time study

If you’re a new part-time student  you can apply now for a Tuition Fee Loan. The maximum Tuition Fee Loan you can get if you’re a part-time student is £6,750.

The amount you get depends on the cost of your tuition fees and not on your household income. The Tuition Fee Loan is paid directly to your university or college.
