Supporting you to get work ready from day one

So you want to go to university but you don't know what you want to do when you leave? Or, you know what you want to do but don't know how to get there? 

Don't panic! 

Once you're enrolled on a course here, our Careers and Employment Service will support you in finding the right path to choose, becoming industry aware and developing your career ambitions.

We want to support you in preparing for the world of work and make sure that you have the greatest possible chance of getting a job you want after graduating, this is how:

The Futures Award

Gain official recognition for your volunteering, employer mentoring, work experience, curriculum activity, student union involvement and more.

Real World Learning

With £89million invested in our facilities over the past five years we want to ensure that you have access to some of the UK’s best learning environments. Our facilities operate on a commercial scale making the world your classroom. 

Professional Qualifications

Gain a recognized qualification alongside knowledge and practical skills by studying on one of our courses which are accredited by professional bodies. You could also undertake professional qualifications alongside some of our courses.

Our close links with employers across many industries means that you’ll be kept up to date with industry developments, go on work placements, and have the opportunity to build good contacts to help you get a job. 

Work Placements

Our strong links with industry leaders has previously seen our students gain placements at companies such as Microsoft, Bentley, Porsche, Rolls Royce, Toyota and IBM. Supporting you with CV and personal statement writing skills as well as offering advice as and when you need it our Careers and Employment Service can support you in applying for a placement that suits your needs and career ambitions.

Work placements look great on your CV and many of our students have gone on to secure a role with their placements after graduating. 

Be your own boss

If your ambition is to own your own business, either while you’re studying or after you’ve graduated we can offer you one of our incubation units, with reasonable rent and a range of business support services to help you on your way to establishing your business.

We also run competitions every year, such as Business Quest, to help you develop your business and enterprise skills. 

Our three year promise

Once your hard work has paid off and you have gained your degree we continue to support you in securing the job you want. For up to three years after you graduate our Careers and Employment Service will support and guide you with one to one appointments with employment advisors, career planning, CV tailoring and preparing for interviews. 

You also have the opportunity to take a postgraduate Career Management and Employability module. This 10 week online course will offer you the chance to enhance your employability prospects and offer you an insight into postgraduate level learning.
