Why Did Will Smith Choose Suicide Squad Over Independence Day 2?

17 hours ago | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Will Smith was faced with a very tough decision last year. He could either zip up his flight suit and take on aliens once again in Independence Day: Resurgence, a sequel to his smash hit 1996 blockbuster ID4, or he could cover his entire face and blast aliens of a different race in DC Films' Suicide Squad. As we all know, he chose the later, and that seems to have been the better option.

Though, many wonder why he chose to go with Deadshot instead of Captain Steven "Steve" Hiller, Usmc. Hiller did, after all, put him on the map as one of Hollywood's most bankable stars. But that may have been the problem. In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, the actor explains his decision in moving forward with a new franchise as opposed to returning to the past.

This Christmas, Will Smith stars in the spiritual sequel to his »

Justice League 2 release delayed for new Zack Snyder project

9 December 2016 8:17 PM, PST | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

Mike Cecchini Dec 10, 2016

Justice League 2 may be delayed, and this may have implications for the Batman solo movie, too.

So, this is tricky. Zack Snyder is currently busy on post-production for the Justice League movie. The plan has always been for Snyder to return for Justice League 2, which has long been scheduled for a June 14th, 2019 release date. But that might not be the case, and there are a number of moving parts here.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Snyder wants to take a break from massively budgeted superhero movies to work on something a little smaller, in this case it's The Last Photograph, a thriller set in Afghanistan, that he's been developing since before he took on Man Of Steel or Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice. If that becomes his next project after Justice League, there's no way that he can stick around to help Justice League 2 »

Justice League 2 Pushed Back To Make Way For Ben Affleck’s The Batman

9 December 2016 4:44 PM, PST | LRMonline.com | See recent LRM Online news »

While the Marvel Cinematic Universe seems to be a consistent beast, the DC Extended Universe is one that’s full of ever-changing release dates and fluctuating expectations. While Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad were both financial successes, they didn’t do a lot to gain faith among fans.

On the heels of those films, Geoff Johns was hired by DC Films as sort of the Kevin Feige of the company, whose focus would be on making the films as good as possible. In other words, there seemed to be a shift from director-focused visions to a company vision, not unlike how Marvel does things. With this shift in philosophy, many were wondering what this would mean for Zack Snyder’s future with the franchise? Would he be done after the first Justice League film?

Based on a new report from THR, it doesn’t sound like he’ll be leaving the franchise — and, »

Justice League 2 Delayed Because of Ben Affleck's The Batman

9 December 2016 4:27 PM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Zack Snyder is currently hard at work on the live-action Justice League movie for Warner Bros., which is set to be released next year. There are a lot of reasons to be excited about the movie, but one of the biggest is easily getting to see more of Ben Affleck as Batman. But that begs the question, when are we going to see the solo Batman movie? It looks like Warner Bros. is actually going to be subbing in Ben Affleck's The Batman for Justice League 2.

The news comes courtesy of The Hollywood Reporter and they claim that Warner Bros. is bumping back Justice League 2, which was slated to come out on June 14, 2019, for The Batman. The report didn't clarify if the first solo Batman movie in the DC Extended Universe would be coming out on that same release date, but it seems like a safe bet. »

Justice League 2 Pushed Back For The Batman, But Will Zack Snyder Still Direct?

9 December 2016 3:43 PM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Zack Snyder has begun lining up his next project, but it surprisingly won’t have any ties to the world of comic books. Rather than jumping straight on to Justice League 2 following the release of the first film next November (as was the original plan), Snyder will instead take the helm of a movie he started developing around the time 300 was released.

It’s called The Last Photograph and was penned by his regular collaborator Kurt Johnstad. Here’s how the project is described by The Hollywood Reporter:

“Photograph centers on a war correspondent in Afghanistan who is the only one to survive an attack on a group of Americans. When a special ops soldier in search of a family member shows up, the two team up, with the correspondent hoping to score the story of his life.”

So, a pretty big departure from his work in the DC Extended Universe, »

Zack Snyder to direct Afghanistan conflict film The Last Photograph, Justice League 2 pushed back for The Batman

9 December 2016 3:37 PM, PST | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Director Zack Snyder has found his next project, which for the first time since 2013’s Man of Steel will take him away from the DC Extended Universe and out of comic book adaptations. According to THR, his next film will instead be The Last Photograph, about a war correspondent and the conflict in Afghanistan.

According to the report, Snyder still plans to direct the sequel to next year’s Justice League, but that film’s schedule is supposedly on hold to make room for Ben Affleck’s The Batman. That’s opened up some time in Snyder’s schedule, allowing him to make The Last Photograph, a project that he and 300 scribe Kurt Johnstad came up with about ten years ago.

The film features a war correspondent in Afghanistan who “is the only one to survive an attack on a group of Americans. When a special ops soldier in search »

Zack Snyder Aims to Shoot Afghan Thriller ‘Last Photograph’ After ‘Justice League’

9 December 2016 3:26 PM, PST | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Zack Snyder is aiming to shoot Afghanistan-based thriller “The Last Photograph” next year after he completes post-production on the upcoming superhero tentpole “Justice League.”

The Last Photograph” has been in development since 2007 in the wake of Snyder’s breakout success with directing “300” from Kurt Johnstad’s script with Gianni Nunnari’s Hollywood Gang producing. That team began work on “The Last Photograph,” based on an original idea by Snyder about a photograph that becomes the catalyst for a journey through war-torn Afghanistan for two men — a war correspondent who is the only one to survive an attack and a special ops soldier in search of a family member.

At that point, Nunnari was on board to produce with Snyder and his Cruel and Unusual Films partner Deborah Snyder. Christian Bale and Sean Penn were attached to star in 2011, but Snyder wound up directing three superhero films for Warner Bros. instead with 2013’s “Man of Steel, »

Zack Snyder Will Direct Justice League 2, But It's Been Delayed To Make Room For The Batman

9 December 2016 1:55 PM, PST | ComicBookMovie.com | See recent ComicBookMovie news »

The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that once he's finished working on Justice League, Zack Snyder will finally set his sights on The Last Photograph. The thriller is a small scale production which has been in the works since the mid-2000s, but after the filmmaker found success with 300, the rights lapped. He's now looking to get them back though after getting longtime collaborator Kurt Johnstad to pen the screenplay. That will however be getting a rewrite before production actually starts late next year.  According to the trade, "Photograph centers on a war correspondent in Afghanistan who is the only one to survive an attack on a group of Americans. When a special ops soldier in search of a family member shows up, the two team up, with the correspondent hoping to score the story of his life."  The original plan was for Snyder to immediately start working on Justice League 2, »

Zack Snyder Firming Up Post-'Justice League' Plans with 'The Last Photograph' (Exclusive)

9 December 2016 1:48 PM, PST | The Hollywood Reporter - Movie News | See recent The Hollywood Reporter - Movie News news »

Zack Snyder is going from the epic world of DC superheroes to war-torn Afghanistan.

After wrapping Justice League, Snyder is not tackling Justice League 2, as was the initial plan, but rather is focusing his attention on his long-in-development thriller The Last Photograph.

Snyder is still intent on directing Justice League 2, but that movie has been pushed back to make room for Ben Affleck’s Batman stand-alone movie. The move left an opening in Snyder’s schedule for a production that is smaller-scale, at least compared to massive superhero tentpoles he has been working on of late. »

Joe Manganiello Trolls Batman Fans with More Armie Hammer Photos

Last week, a report surfaced that Armie Hammer may be joining a Dceu movie, after it was discovered that he was recently followed on Twitter by DC Films president Geoff Johns and Joe Manganiello, who has been confirmed to play Deathstroke in Ben Affleck's The Batman. This lead to a wave of speculation that the actor may be joining the Dceu in some capacity, whether it be in The Batman or Green Lantern Corps, which the actor seemingly picked up on. He sent out a series of tweets teasing a major announcement, which ended up just being that the actor will 'play his old guitar'. Now Joe Manganiello has gotten in on the act, posting photos of himself and Armie Hammer 'burning the midnight oil'.

Armie Hammer shared the same photo but with a different caption on his Instagram reading "Men at work." The photo has both actors looking at an iPad. »

Owen Gleiberman’s Top 10 Films of 2016

8 December 2016 12:14 PM, PST | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

There was once a time when great movies, as often as not, were mainstream movies. These days, it’s easy to feel that those two things are doomed to live on separate islands. Yet not always: A number of the movies on my list, from the bedazzled romance of “La La Land” to the somber excitement of “Patriots Day,” testify to a resurgence, at the movies, of a certain kind of old-school populism. And why not? These may be turbulent and troubled times, but that’s reflected in both the passion onscreen and the passion of moviegoers themselves.

1. “La La Land

Damien Chazelle’s starry-eyed moody confection of a musical is the rare modern movie that does the thing we all (in our hidden hearts) long for: It puts you — and leaves you — in a trance. It’s set against a twinkling magic-hour L.A., with Ryan Gosling’s short-fused »

Hot Rumor: Is Justice League Mortal's Dark Knight Going To Appear In The Batman?

Many moons ago, as covered in our running Series of Dceu Columns, Mad Max's George Miller was set to direct a little movie called Justice League Mortal. The film, which would've come out smack dab in the middle of Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy, was actually going to introduce mainstream audiences to a completely separate version of Bruce Wayne/Batman. Sets were being constructed, costumes designed, and casting finalized. But then the Writer's Strike happened, Warner Bros. got cold feet, and the project fell apart.

Zack Snyder Reveals Insane Batman v Superman and Star Wars Mashup Trailer

It is no secret that director Zack Snyder has a very deep fondness for Star Wars. Even before the release of Man of Steel, he was sharing Batman V Superman and Star Wars mashup images from a galaxy far, far away and the DC Extended Universe. Now, he has taken things a step further and created his own mashup trailer, bringing together Star Wars and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

The trailer, titled Darkside Knight V Superjedi, started out as a Vero exclusive, but made its way onto YouTube so that we can all enjoy it. Or at least see it, since the amount of enjoyment fans will derive will vary. In it, Zack Snyder still pits Ben Affleck's Batman against Henry Cavill's Superman, but they both have lightsabers this time. The Batman: Joe Manganiello Suggests He’ll Slip On The Deathstroke Suit “This Year”

7 December 2016 3:03 PM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

From day one, Ben Affleck’s The Batman has sparked speculation all across the Internet – casting, filming locations, villains, you name it – and the lack of communication coming out of Warner Bros. has only fuelled that fire.

Last we checked in on Affleck’s passion project, the writer-director had earmarked spring 2017 as a potential production start, leading to reports claiming that The Batman could swoop into theaters as early as 2018. Still no update on the release date front, but according to Joe Manganiello, the Caped Crusader’s next standalone picture is further along in pre-production than first anticipated, after Manganiello claimed The Batman would officially enter development “at some point this year” while appearing on The Rich Eisen Show (via Batman-News).

Now, before jumping to conclusions, the Deathstroke actor likely used “this year” loosely, referring to the next 12 months rather than the remainder of 2016. Besides, with Affleck busy overseeing the »
