Movie Review – They’re Watching (2016)

They’re Watching, 2016.

Directed by Jay Lander and Micah Wright.

Starring David Alpay, Cristian Balint, Brigid Brannagh, Dimitri Diatchenko, Mia Faith, Carrie Genzel and Kris Lemche.

Synopsis:

An American TV crew are sent to a small Moldovan village to record a reality home improvement show, but they soon come into conflict with the locals, and their folkloric beliefs of witchcraft.

This found footage horror-comedy begins with a fictionalised reality TV home redevelopment/relocation programme. Californian artist and pottery enthusiast Becky Westlake (Brigid Brannagh) and her spouse Goran Potsnik (Cristian Balint), a shallow soccer player, are looking for a fixer-upper property on the outskirts of a Moldovan village. Local smooth talking salesman Vladimir Filat (Dimitri Diatchenko) takes them around this “potential” country home; an abandoned, half-burned, derelict building. Filat’s unabashed optimism, and possible naiveté, goes to work to smooth out any issues with the house. So whenever Goran points out the obvious, »

Gotham Season 2 Episode 15 Review – ‘Mad Grey Dawn’

Martin Carr reviews the fifteenth episode of Gotham season 2…

These are dark days indeed for Jim Gordon. Never has a tagline for an episode been more apt than it is here with Gotham’s ‘Mad Grey Dawn’. Because as the sun comes up on another day in this grimy metropolis, things have never looked bleaker. With an altered Cobblepot on the streets, one unstable Nygma in forensics and internal affairs reopening the Galavan investigation things are getting juicy. Not to mention the fact that Bruce Wayne has gone all street and abandoned his cash supply and pampered lifestyle, in a bid to find himself.

What we have here beyond the ticking time bombs, savage beatings and father son reunions is an episode and season which continues delivering on all counts. With the rise of Butch and subjugation of Penguin we have one hell of a three sixty going on. With »

Supergirl Season 1 Episode 17 Review – ‘Manhunter’

Martin Carr reviews the seventeenth episode of Supergirl

There are echoes of Alien Nation and Predator in this week’s episode, which effectively employs flashback to fill in back story for everyone. Unlike other shows the technique is employed correctly to broaden and deepen our bond with these characters, while showing the true nature of others. With a surprising yet welcome appearance from Dean Cain’s Jeremiah Danvers, as well as topical pops at film stars and royalty alike. Supergirl still proves to have something in reserve as we head towards the season finale. With Henshaw’s intervention and subsequent arrest, we open with an incarcerated Hank stuck in a Deo cell eating chocolate.

Following on from his reveal as a Martian shapeshifter, Supergirl subtlety addresses issues of victimisation first broached in ‘Human For a Day’. Giving everyone their moment in the sun through interrogation flashbacks, whilst keeping it interesting »
