Aperture priority is fine for this type of shot. Just focus a little way in e.g. on one of the pillars, not on the far distance. Take another focussed on the edge of the door too. Pick the best one.

f8 @ 16mm will give you lots of DoF. Focussing 1/3rd way in is a good rule of thumb too. He probably focussed on the pillars just beyond the doors.
