Michael Maduell is President, Co-founder and Board Member of the Sovereign Wealth Fund Institute (SWFI). Under his leadership, the SWFI has grown dramatically in prestige, global reach and revenue. The SWFI provides news, intelligence and data to a variety of clients including: investment banks, asset managers, asset owners, private equity firms, law firms, universities, governments, corporations and other private entities. As a consultant for Park Alpha, the SWFI’s premier consulting division, Michael provides individually tailored, clear and comprehensive solutions for governments and finance professionals around the globe. He is also Editor-in-Chief of the Sovereign Wealth Quarterly, the SWFI’s flagship publication. Michael co-invented the Linaburg-Maduell Transparency Index. The index is a method of rating transparency in respect to sovereign wealth funds.

Michael’s prolific research and SWFI’s data products have been referenced in hundreds of academic papers and respected journals, as well as appearing in prominent media outlets, such as the Financial Times, Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, Reuters, The Economist, BBC and the New York Times. He has even made television appearances on networks such as CNBC, CNN and BNN. Before co-founding the Sovereign Wealth Fund Institute, Michael worked in various organizations throughout the finance industry including Reuters and the California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS).

He received his Master’s in Investment Management and Financial Analysis from Saint Mary’s College and a Bachelor’s in Finance and Risk Management from California State University, Sacramento. Michael is an affiliate member of the CFA Society of Sacramento. Michael is an Eagle Scout.
