Digital Photography Review: Challenges

Unwelcome, Undesirable Insects or Spiders Here's your opportunity to show the world the problems insects or spiders can cause in our domestic lives. I'm thinking termites, wasps, stinging ants, bee swarms in unwanted places, bed bugs, midges which drive animals and Scottish Highlanders insane with their bites, leeches, (yes, I know they aren't insects or spiders), and any other nasties you can suggest. Entries of insects or spiders which I consider 'friendly' may be disqualified. Your entry should show an element of of the problems the insects or spiders have caused, or give us an explanation about these unwelcome guests. Macro and close-ups welcome. Size of entry: 1,600 pixels on the longer side.

MacroMania Series 1 ■ Artistic Eyes Show up your best macro of eyes of any species (including humans), taken at 1:1 or 5:1 magnification. Focus staking is allowed. The images should not be from a microscope or similar equipments. The images should be artistic.

In the Garden.... Show off your garden in its best light. It can be at any season and it can depict any flora or fauna (as long as it's clear that it was taken in your garden), but only private gardens please - I don't want to see what the professionals are doing at Kew or Chelsea!

Slot Canyon A slot canyon is a narrow canyon where at times you can touch both sides of the canyon walls at once. It can be difficult to photograph slot canyons due the the lack of light. Please submit your favorite slot canyon photo. The photo isn't required to be in the narrows as these canyons open up in places. Please list the general area where the canyon is located and/or it's name. The commercial, tiny Antelope canyon is not allowed. As the host I will disqualify entries that I don't think are part of a slot canyon system. Well known slot canyons are found in Utah, Arizona, Australia, Spain etc.

Wide Open - Shallow Depth of Field Turn the background to mush. This time we are looking for you to get creative with low F stop numbers. You may photograph whatever subject you like (as long as it's family friendly). See how lighting, distance and angle all affect an image produced wide open. There is NO lens limitations. Dig down into your inner artist and give us a breathtaking image. Be creative. Just because your lens shoots at 1.2 doesn't mean it will produce a winning image.
