See the Female Warriors of 'Wonder Woman' Strike a Badass Pose in This New Image

just now

With Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hitting theaters this week, Warner Bros. is taking the chance to throw us some goodies for their other upcoming superhero movies, including the first teaser for The Lego Batman Movie and now this new image from next year's solo Wonder Woman movie, starring Gal Gadot. Gadot's too-cool-for-school approach to Diana Prince, aka Wonder Woman, is arguably one of the best parts of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. She's clearly a character who's been there and done that, and it's refreshing to see a female superhero lasso in to save the day for a change.  The image above (courtesy of EW) features four female Amazonian warriors of Themyscira, Wonder Woman's home. It's there that Diana stands alongside her...

just now

In 2017, we're going to get not one, but two Justice League movies! Well, okay, one of those will most definitely be branded a full-on Justice League movie and is a direct live-action follow-up to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, in theaters this weekend. The other, which comes out several months earlier (on February 10, 2017) is another follow-up of sorts, only for the wildly successful The Lego Movie. Lego Batman is back! And he's brought with him his own movie! As the amusing first trailer for The Lego Batman Movie reveals, Batman is still busy fighting crime alongside his Justice League pals by night, and by late-night he's, um, microwaving lobster all by his lonesome... like a boss! Check it out. Will Arnett returns as the perfectly-cast voice of Lego...

Every 'Batman' Movie, Ranked

For comic book fans, Batman is the hero we need and deserve on the big screen. Well, minus the Schumacher years. From Michael Keaton to Christian Bale, the Dark Knight has been avenging his parents and punching goons for almost 50 years. Ben Affleck is the latest actor to put on the cape, in the highly-anticipated “Batman v Superman.” In honor of the World’s Finest finally teaming up in their own blockbuster, we’ve ranked ever one of Batman’s film to get a theatrical release – both live-action and animated.   9. Batman & Robin (1997) “Grab the gem. Kill the heroes!” That that’s one of the many “so-bad-they’re-really-not-good” lines to come out of Mr. Freeze’s mouth in this franchise...

Intense First 'Deepwater Horizon' Trailer Shows the Right Way to Tease a Movie

Earlier today we got our first look at some images from Deepwater Horizon, a new movie based on the 2014 disaster that saw the destruction of an oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico and the ongoing environmental catastrophe caused by millions of gallons of oil spewing into the ocean. Summit Entertainment wasted no time in following up those images with a trailer for the movie and wow. Seriously, wow. This is a great, great teaser trailer. Peter Berg may not be everyone's favorite filmmaker. Movies like Battleship make him a bit of an easy target. But Berg is at his absolute best when he's telling stories about everyday Americans just trying to get on with their lives, and Deepwater Horizon almost looks like what would happen if Friday Night Lights suddenly turned into a...

Laurence Fishburne Explains How 'The Matrix' Already Had Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman in it

In advance of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hitting theaters, we sent our intrepid Superman fan Jeffrey Taylor to chat with some of the ensemble cast, including Laurence Fishburne, Holly Hunter and Diane Lane.  As Perry White, Clark Kent and Lois Lane's boss at The Daily Planet, Laurence Fishburne is strong, fairly level-headed and a bit of a pushover when it comes to his favorite journalists not completing the assignments he gave them. He's an old-schooler, and in Batman v Superman you can tell the disintegrating market for physical newspapers is beginning to take a toll on him (and his budget).  Fishburne was a big comics fan growing up -- revealing to us that he would steal comics from the local candy store when he was six years old because he...

Shane Black Says His 'Predator' Sequel Will Be a Giant Blockbuster Like 'Iron Man 3'

The original Predator might be remembered as a major action movie from the '80s, but it wasn't really that big. Its cost was only $15 million and it only earned $60 million ($133 million in today's dollars), placing it outside the top 10 highest-grossing movies of 1987, below such forgotten films as The Secret of My Success and Stakeout, despite its having the second-best opening weekend of the year. And it wasn't very grand in terms of its scope, either, being mainly a cat-and-mouse story in a single jungle setting. The four follow-ups, including two sequels and two crossovers with the Alien franchise, also weren't huge movies. But the next time we see one of those dreadlocked extraterrestrial hunters, in the currently titled The Predator, it's going...

Here are the seven deleted scenes with a brief description of what each includes: Finn And The Villager This scene plays like an extension of Finn's disillusionment regarding the early fight as a stormtrooper on Jakku. 'Don't Breathe' Stars Talk About Needing a "Safe" Word with Stephen Lang

[Dylan Minnette in Goosebumps] Starring in a horror movie is a rite of passage for young actors, but once they've made a few they tend to step away from the genre for a while lest they become typecast. You might think that would be the case for the young stars of Fede Alvarez's new horror movie, Don't Breathe. Jane Levy made a big splash in the horror world when she starred in Evil Dead. Dylan Minnette cut some great horror teeth in Let Me In. Daniel Zovatto's had leading spots in both Beneath and It Follows. It's a testament, then, to what Alvarez was planning for Don't Breathe that the trio all eagerly signed up for the movie despite already having checked some major horror movie boxes off of their filmographies.  We spoke to Minette and Zovatto...

See Mark Wahlberg in Revealing New 'Deepwater Horizon' Images

Actor turned director Peter Berg has proven to have a sure hand when it comes to turning true stories into compelling big-screen experiences. Friday Night Lights, his third directorial effort, dramatized the lives of a real-life high school football team in Texas to great effect, while the more recent Lone Survivor kept tensions high in relating the true-life account of a small military team and their ill-fated mission in Afghanistan. The latter movie displayed a ferocious spirit, even when dealing with tragic events.  Mark Wahlberg starred in Lone Survivor and it's evident that he and Berg worked well together, both in front of and behind the scenes. In August 2014, the ever-busy Wahlberg agreed to star in Deepwater Horizon as a member of an oil rig crew that suffered a...

Watch Jake Gyllenhaal Describe His Disastrous Audition for 'The Lord of the Rings'

22 March 2016 10:00 PM, PDT

Can you imagine Jake Gyllenhaal as a hobbit? The actor auditioned for the part of Frodo for the Lord of the Rings trilogy back in the early years of his career, and of course he didn't get the part. But it wasn't just a matter of Elijah Wood being better for the role. As Gyllenhaal tells it, he specifically wasn't cast because he was, according to Peter Jackson, "the worst actor I have ever seen." That sounds a bit harsh, but apparently the now Oscar-nominated Gyllenhaal had some very excited but also very bad agents at the time, and they failed to properly prepare their young star -- at the time best known for October Sky, if anything -- by forgetting to tell him he needed to do an English accent.  Watch Gyllenhaal tell Jimmy Fallon of his...

The Geek Beat: How 'Batman v Superman' Can Win Over 'Man of Steel' Haters

22 March 2016 7:30 PM, PDT

Let's get this out of the way right at the start: I wasn't a fan of Man of Steel. From the film's dark, nihilistic tone, to that climactic snap heard 'round the world, the complaints I share with so many others about Zack Snyder's polarizing, 2013 reboot of the Superman franchise have been well-documented in countless columns and think-pieces, so there shouldn't be any reason to wade through all of them again. And yet, the superhero movie landscape is littered with sequels that improved upon their predecessors, so there's reason to believe that people who reacted negatively to Man of Steel might be pleasantly surprised with its sequel, the upcoming Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice. Sure, it's not very likely, but the possibility is...

'Evil Dead' Director Explains Why He Made 'Don't Breathe' Instead of Chasing Huge Studio Movies

22 March 2016 4:30 PM, PDT

Hollywood careers tend to follow a pretty simple equation. Success begets success. If someone has a hit, their value in the industry goes up and they use it to get a bigger project, with the presumed end game being the big, huge projects that you see on billboards and during Superbowl commercial breaks. When a filmmaker has success there's an assumption that they should use it to scramble as high up the Hollywood ladder as possible. Evil Dead director Fede Alvarez doesn't necessarily believe that. His debut feature was a huge hit, and so naturally you'd think his next step would be trying to land a bigger budget tent pole movie. That's not what Alvarez did, though. Instead the man from Uruguay set out to make another modestly budgeted horror movie about three...

Margot Robbie to Star as Disgraced Ice Skater Tonya Harding

22 March 2016 3:00 PM, PDT

Australian actress Margot Robbie broke out big in The Wolf of Wall Street, giving a memorable performance as a young woman who falls for Leonardo DiCaprio. Since then, she's bounced between lead and supporting roles in Z for Zechariah, Focus and Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, lending her characters distinctive edges that make them stand out from the ordinary. Robbie will appear in two blockbuster productions that are due out this summer, first as love interest Jane in The Legend of Tarzan and then as the eye-catching Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad. In February, she signed up to star in a thriller titled Terminal and now she's ready to take the reins on a new independent drama. She is attached to star in I, Tonya, according to Deadline, based on the real-life story of ice...

Zack Snyder Wants More '300' Movies Depicting Other Famous Historical Battles

22 March 2016 1:30 PM, PDT

Zack Snyder has a lot on his plate right now with the DC Extended Universe movies, including this week's new release, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. But he's interested in maintaining another franchise, one that also originated with a comic book. In an interview with Collider, Snyder noted that he's been thinking of doing more 300 sequels, but they'd be more like independent installments in a kind of anthology series rather than straight follow-ups like 300: Rise of an Empire. "We’ve been talking a lot about sort of different incarnations," he told the site. "We talked about the Revolutionary War version, and we talked about the Alamo, and we’ve talked about, there’s a battle in China, a “Lost...
