Metacritic's Top Films, Shows, Games of 2015

With all the year's films now out in U.S. theaters, Metacritic.com has revealed what films, games and TV shows were the best of the year based on the aggregate scores of the top critics. I've divided the lists into three sections - films, TV shows and major video games. Check out the scores below:

Best Films
This list does NOT include old film re-releases. Films also have to have over a dozen reviews to be considered, which is why high scoring works like "Virunga," "Big Men," "Night Will Fall" and "Stand Clear of the Closing Doors" are not included.

  1. "Carol" - 96/100
  2. "Anomalisa," "45 Years" - 95/100
  3. "Inside Out" - 94/100
  4. "Spotlight," "Sherpa" - 93/100
  5. "Timbuktu," "The Look of Silence" - 92/100
  6. "Jafar Panahi's Taxi" - 91/100
  7. "Gett: The Trial of Viviane Amsalem," "Hard to Be a God" - 90/100
  8. "Mad Max: Fury Road," "Phoenix," "Son of Saul" - 89/100
  9. "Democrats" - 88/100
  10. "Brooklyn," " Diary of a Teenage Girl," "Duke of Burgundy," "Listen to Me Marlon" - 87/100

There's also a tally of the movies most frequently mentioned by individual film critics in their year-end Top Ten lists. On that front the twenty best films this year are: "Mad Max: Fury Road," "Carol," "Spotlight," "Inside Out," "Brooklyn," "Ex Machina," "Anomalisa," "The Assassin," "Son of Saul," "45 Years," "Tangerine," "Phoenix," "The Martian," "Room," "Creed," "The Look of Silence," "It Follows," "The Big Short," "Clouds of Sils Maria," and "Sicario".

Best TV Series
The reviews for shows on the site are often for the first few episodes of a season, and so aren't as reliable overall as the film scores:

  1. "Fargo: S2" - 96/100
  2. "Transparent: S2" - 93/100
  3. "The Americans: S3" - 92/100
  4. "Game of Thrones: S5," "Louie: S5," "Master of None: S1" - 91/100
  5. "BoJack Horseman: S2," "Veep: S4" - 90/100
  6. "Broad City: S2," "Justified: S6," "Rectify: S3" - 89/100
  7. "Silicon Valley: S2," "Wolf Hall: S1" - 86/100
  8. "The Knick: S2," "Making a Murderer: S1," "Show Me a Hero" - 85/100
  9. "American Crime: S1," "Hannibal: S3" - 84/100
  10. "Catastrophe: S1," "Mad Men: S7.5," "Orange is the New Black: S3" - 83/100

There's also a tally of the TV shows most frequently mentioned by individual TV critics in their year-end Top Ten lists, which I think is actually a more reliable indicator. On that front the twenty best shows on TV right now are: "Fargo," "Mr. Robot," "Mad Men," "The Leftovers," "The Americans," "Transparent," "Master of None," "Better Call Saul," "Game of Thrones," "UnReal," "Marvel's Jessica Jones," "You're the Worst," "The Jinx," "Empire," "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt," "Hannibal," "Catastrophe," "BoJack Horseman," "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend," and "Veep"

Best Video Games
Scoring for games on the site is something of a mess as episodic releases, DLC add-on packs and iOS games are often given their own scores. To keep the list reasonable, I'm sticking to full game releases only - no episodic content or DLC add-on titles such as 'The Taken King' or 'Hearts of Stone':
