‘The Lion’ Launches Nat’l Search for Next Star

The Lion” actor and writer Benjamin Scheuer and producer Eva Price are currently searching nationwide for the musical’s next star ahead of Scheuer’s final performance in 2017. “I’m looking forward to seeing someone new step into this role, and to make it his or her own,” Scheuer said in a statement. “They can be any age, any gender, any race. While the story is obviously very personal to me, it is also very universal and has resonated with audiences across the country for a variety of reasons.” Scheuer and Price are accepting video submissions for the new “Ben.” Singer-guitarists are free to upload videos of themselves playing “Cookie-tin Banjo” and email their performances to TheLionCasting@gmail.com. SAG-aftra Reaches Pact on Commercial Contracts

SAG-aftra and the Joint Policy Committee on Broadcast Talent Union Relations representing advertisers and its agencies reached a tentative deal for new radio and television contracts on Sunday. No specific details of the agreement have been released, but the deal will be a point of discussion at the next SAG-aftra National Board of Directors meeting happening April 9–10. “The tentative agreement delivers essential gains while properly positioning us for future growth in digital and social media,” said Gabrielle Carteris, SAG-aftra acting president and negotiating committee co-chair. “As content evolves, we are poised to grow work opportunities that support members and their families.” Carteris thanked members of the negotiating committee, co-chair Sue-Anne Morrow, chief negotiator David White, and the rest of the staff for achieving this tentative agreement after lengthy negotiations. Morrow said the negotiating committee consisted of working commercial performers throughout the country and the deal will secure “significant financial gains” for their members. »

‘Gypsy,’ Dench Win Big at 40th Annual Oliviers

Honoring the best of London theater, the Laurence Olivier Awards celebrated its 40th anniversary April 3 at the iconic Royal Opera House in Covent Garden. Hosted by two-time Olivier winner Michael Ball, the ceremony was broadcasted live for the first time on YouTube, allowing audiences from around the world to tune into the show’s results and special performances. This year’s most nominated production, the Jonathan Kent-directed “Gypsy” at the Savoy Theatre, came away the big winner with wins for best musical revival, lighting designer Mark Henderson, and stars Imelda Staunton and Lara Pulver. Watch: The Cast of ‘American Psycho’ Performs ‘Selling Out’

The cast of “American Psycho” visited Stephen Colbert’s late night studio on April 2, ahead of their April 21 opening at the Schoenfeld Theatre. Previews began March 24. Starring Benjamin Walker as Patrick Bateman, Alice Ripley, Heléne Yorke, Drew Moerlein, and others, the production features music and lyrics from Duncan Sheik (“Spring Awakening”) with the book written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. Atlanta Now Casting ‘Between Women’ Plus More Auditions
